  • Can't believe I'm getting so old that film stock from 1998 looks like it's from the early 70's :/

  • literally the most fucked up movie i've ever seen.

  • People are always putting New Jersey down, but that's just because they don't get it

    It's.. it's a Jersey thing.

  • watched this film for the first time on mushrooms not too long ago...............bad move......good film

  • i been searching for this movie for so damn long but cannot find anywhere to download it!!!!!! ahhhhhh

  • I think this movie can provide us with an excellent example of how sick and twisted our life can get. it`s brillant!!

  • Is that REM singing near the end?

  • @MultiQueenbutterfly its Michael Stipe singing but with other folks on the instruments

  • I CAAAAAME! favorite scene.

  • test

  • I just watch this film and I loved it, but this isn't a happy film or a comedy,I founded it quite depressing and lonely. I think that the meaning of this film is that nothing's what it seems , that happiness is hard to achieve and that the people you know may seem normal when they probably aren't.

  • @Loveisblindness89 I laughed very hard during the first time seeing it in a theater. I was the only one laughing. oh well...

  • What a horrible horrible trailer.Probably even the worst trailer I have ever seen.

  • I still can't believe I watched this one with my parents. They've always been open with me about adult matters, but watching Happiness with them has to be the most awkward few hours of my life. But I don't regret it since it was fascinating to witness their ever changing reactions throughout the many scenes and developments in the film.

  • this movie looks depressing as hell.

  • Great movie!

  • This trailer has pretty much nothing to do with with the movie!

  • Haha the what is cum scene is from this movie! Awesomeeee

  • brilliant movie, lol

  • Wow, This trailer sure does a great job at conveying what a hilarious and uplifting romantic comedy this film is sure to be!

I think I'll hire this out and watch it with my elderly grandparents, I'm sure we'll all have some good laughs!

  • @Cha4k

just saw the movie, love your comment, love the trailer :D

  • you know, for a film which is about divorce, pedophelia, murder, sexual harassment, rape, adultery, masturbation, loneliness, ignorance, unfortune, misery, grief, selfloathing, materialism, deah and suicide.. it is laugh out loud funnyXD

  • hey,the guy with the orange hair and glasses is the same guy who plays the villain in mission impossible 3

  • I'm gonna fuck you so hard you're gonna cum outta your ears!

  • this movie is just too adult.... for anyone

  • I've seen this movie for the first time last night & i thought it was good, i even went as far as to smoke a blunt during the movie, shit had me glued to the screen with my mouth open.

  • i love movies like this that make ya think for a while.

  • This trailer is awesome--deceptive like the title and dvd cover. This movie can crush the souls of weaker minded people and leave them in a state of depression for weeks. Personally, I laugh my ass off every time I watch it. One of the greatest movies of all time.

  • This trailer makes this look like a sitcom you'd see on ABC... Sadly mistaken.

  • I first saw this trailer on a VHS of Pleasantville. Why? I don't think the two films share a big common target audience. It's like putting the trailer for Fight Club on the School of Rock dvd.

  • Ah man people who watch this movie after this trailer are in for a shock...... it's a pretty good movie, and the ending is outrageous - that's an understatement. but really, this is NOT a happy-go-lucky movie..at all. Not at all.

  • i remember watching this magnoleya Skitsopolis in one evening over ten years ago.

  • Hahahahahaha This trailer makes this movie seem likes it's innocent!

  • @antekification If you can't think deeply into things, yes. go ahead and think it's just for "shock value".

  • @Darin847 its just for shock value damnit, its a movie you moron.

  • this trailer is so misleading, haha.

  • Listen at 1:50 :D

  • This is my FAVORITE movie. Totally fucked up and beautiful and perfect.

  • just watched this for the first time not 15 ago, it has to be up there in my top 10 favorite movies. it had a lot more cum than i expected.

  • Litteraly just watched it for the first time. Still laughing from the ending.

  • @lashlashlashlashlash LOL quite possibly the best ending ever...right up there with Robocop.

  • this looks like a preview from 1979

  • why such bad quality 98 had better quality then this

  • "I know who you are and you are nothing. You think you are fucking something, but you are fucking nothing. You are empty. You are a zero. You are a black hole, and I'm gonna fuck you so bad you'll be cumming out of your ears." EPICCCCCCC

  • Lol wtf put on the subtitles on the cc. "Wonderful nurses that use the word visit."

  • this movie shocked me so much, couldnt stop watching it ..the kidna film you think about for months

  • I honestly cannot believe how much i love this film.

  • So.. what is the movie ACTUALLY about, then? O.o

  • @KrazeeMee Mostly rape

  • @lashlashlashlashlash

    Oh. I see. :o

  • I guess the trailer doesn't really show the meaning of the movie ... Maybe, it's a choice done in order to keep surprise !

However, this movie is one of the best I have ever seen ... Life is just represented, with realism and sincerity. Even if the viewpoint is pretty pessimistic, this movie is just ... perfect !

  • WTF this movie is ridiculously disturbing and brilliant... this trailer makes it look like a generic 90's rom-com.

  • for a 1998 film this looks visually VERY BAD

  • @C2aimar123 the actual movie isnt like that thats the trailer.

  • I've seen hundreds of movies, this is one of the most memorable

  • SOOOOO FUCKED UP

  • never seen it but my mate said it was totally fucked up. hmmm the trailer doesn't make it look the totaly awful

  • @paddyoclown totally fucked up does not equal totally awful

  • im not laughing at you, im laughing with you.

    O_o but im not laughing

  • Oh my God, this must be the worst trailer for a film EVER!

  • todd solondz makes some of the sickest movies i've ever seen. I love them all.

  • Where can I watch this for free?

  • @kawaiitoboe Hopefully, only in hell...Or you can check it out from your local library like I did.

  • "I came"

  • This film does nothing to me. I'm not feeling depressed or sickened by it. And I'm an affectionate person.

  • I came.

  • Best movie ever. I didn't even laugh even though it was funny. I just sat with my mouth open from beginning to end.

  • What's with all the reviews? Can't people tell from what is actually going on or do they just listen to the background music and close their eyes. This is a f';;ked up film but it is also hilarious.

  • I watched this because of all the enthusiastic reviews and several times I wanted to throw up during the movie. Safe to say I didn't like it and found it to be depressing and sickening. Now comes the onslaught of nasty comments saying I'm an uncultured and low class rube who doesn't appreciate good cinema.

  • The greatest closing line in film history!

    "I came!"

  • Oh man, the many dates this movie must have ruined! Just perfect! xD bwahahaha

  • Looks like it's from 1988, not 1998.

  • Every person in this movie is a sick, depraved individual. Every one.

  • This trailer is a bait for the poor poeple who have no idea what this is really about.

  • Wow, it looks like a film from the 80's with all the grain...

  • We wan Masha! We wan Masha!

  • This film is 12 years old already.. I am getting old.

  • loved this film...it was pretty intense

  • i came

  • @liquidpyramid watdahfuk lol???

  • I recall seeing this movie in the theater with a few of my buddies. I laughed throughout this blackest of comedies, but it seems that few people in the theater seemed to share my sense of humor.

I think in 50 years from now, Todd Solondz will be considered one of the best American writer directors of his time, and certainly the boldest, and this is probably his masterpiece. Phillip Seymour Hoffman steals the film in one of his best early performances but the entire cast is great.

  • They left all the misery, pedophilia, and jizz out of this trailer.

  • Looking at a few of the comments and reviews.. I'm just about to watch this film. Why do i get the feeling i'm going to scar myself for life?

  • a close friend of mine introduced this movie to me not too long ago, she previously told me that this film has such a dark inappropriate humour. i looked over the trailer and i came back to her and said while laughing, "yeah right!! it doesn't look even close!!" but when i saw it for the first time, oh boy!! she just points her finger at me and said, "i told you so!! i told you so!!". and because of that, this became one of my favorite films ever!!

  • haha this trailer makes the movie look quirky and rather bright when it is, in fact, disturbing as hell

  • So so disturbing.

  • This movie was down right dirty ! offensive ! graphic in sexual nature ! how this movie didn't get a X rating ! Just seen this movie last night. Left me in hardcore SHOCK-mode !

    not for the squeamish !

  • Happiness keyword penis

  • Great film great characters great plot great narration.

  • "I'm Champagne and you're SHIT!!!

  • I recomended this to someone telling them it was a "Great family movie" She belived me. Shes now going to watch it with her parents.

  • I am sure that I will soon become a Todd Solondz freak..

  • "happiness" [hap·pi·ness] - a state of tranquility free from anxiety and emotional disturbance.

"delusion" [de·lu·sion] - a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact.

"society" [so·ci·e·ty] - a system of human organizations generating distinctive cultural patterns.

And all that's left is humor...

  • Someone told me this was extremely funny so I rented it a few years ago. I only got as far as the Jon Lovitz character killing himself over his co-worker dumping him. That scene where his mother calls the woman at work to blame her for his death. Then no one at the office even remembering who he was. That's when I shut it off. That was as far as I could go! I can enjoy dark humor but I really couldn't take this movie. I understand it just gets even darker! Jeez! Isn't real life heavy enough?

  • Thats the thing. It is real life, it reminds just how heavy things really are.

This movie is just.... I dunno, you just cant get any darker than this. You want to laugh, but you choke.

  • would you fuck me, no, I just jerk off instead lol!!!!

  • No boy love scene in trailer ?...It's the main thing for this movie.

  • definitely my kind of movie. dark humour = honesty presented in a funny way (:

  • ILoveYou Philip Seymour Hoffman es el mejor

  • I love you Todd Solondz!!!Awesome Director!

  • you'll like this if and only if you like dark comedy - poking fun at the obsurdities of society, life and love. Not a feel good type of movie.

  • Okay... I know it's kinda weird, but I think Philip Seymore-Hoffman is so hot!

  • dark humor ^^

  • Can anyone see my movie? i made a scene from Happieness

    Rate and comment:)

  • To cheekygirl07 -

I think that the actors are great. The film is very, very depressing.

I did not enjoy the film so much. Too much sickness shown in too much of a crude way.

  • People have told me about this movie and going by what they have said it sounds like a pretty fucked up movie. Can someone tell me if its any good, is it worth seeing?

  • @cheekygirl07

Totally worth seeing! Its witty and thought-provoking

  • @SoRazzamatazz

What do you mean by thought-provoking?

  • Just watched the movie its excellent.

Not remotely like the trailer though damn misleading advertising!

  • the most uncomortable father-son conversations ever. Loved it!

  • [...] I know who you are and you are nothing. You think you are fucking something, but you are fucking nothing. You are empty. You are a zero. You are a black hole, and I'm gonna fuck you so bad you'll be coming out of your ears[...] The "happiness" of the title is the opposite of the images. Wow! Great movie with an ironic turn in the only words the meaning of a speech.

  • Great quote. Probably the best in the whole movie! Although Vlad the taxi driver also comes up with some choice utterances.

  • this trailer doesn't even come close to how dark this movie is, that's probably on purpose

  • The ironic thing is everyone is depressed in the end, except for Billy who finally "came". Its a funny movie!

  • great and cynical movie

  • the park dream scene is great

  • I wanna tackle PSH just like Manheim did!!!

  • One of the best movies ever made. Todd Solondz is a genius.

  • Just watched this film.

This is one of the strangest, and disturbing movies I've ever seen-reminding me of American Beauty.

  • I can't believe this trailer. If I saw this in the cinema I'd just think "oh great another quirky rom-com - just what we need".

  • Did you run out and see Batman 27 this summer?

  • soory really wana see this, but i wana know what its about first can any one tell me?

  • watch it this will be the most awkwardly funny/ disturbing movie you will ever see............... i watched it drunk shit was so cash

  • enjoy poverty todd solonz

  • Best movie ending line ever.

  • weird movie..

  • hahahaha, happiness is probably my favorite movie but this is without a doubt the most misleading trailers I've ever seen. whoever was behind marketing on this has to have been either a complete idiot or some sort of elaborate prankster

  • haha agreed. I saw this trailer at the start of a video when I was ten years old and thought it looked like a fun movie. Glad I didn't actually see it til later in life.

  • The most misleading trailer ever. I'm sure many couples saw the trailer, saw the positive critic reviews, and figured it would be a fun little date night for them. The shock and awe this film would bring to those types of people cracks me up.

  • @rudysmustache Same thing that Aussie Roadshow said!

  • @rudysmustache I have a friend whose sister went to a movie with her grandmother called 'welcome to the dollhouse'...and was a little girl no more!

  • @rudysmustache

How did it bring them so much shock? And how was the trailer so misleading?

P.S- I know nothing about the movie, really...lmao

  • @ElCubano941 you'd have to watch the movie and find out lol

  • @ElCubano941 It's a comedy dealing with pedophilia, incest, murder, rape, divorce, isolation, and just misery in general. It's a savagely dark movie, which isn't really conveyed by either the trailer or the intentionally ironic title.

Also one of the funniest movies of all time.

  • @GotNextVideo I foundit funny how I read your comment, but for some reason my mind added the word 'life' to the start so it was like 'life is a comedy dealing with....' I thought wow, yeah that's really deep and makes perfect sense. Then I read it again...it made me laugh, but it really DOES make sense too. Thanks, haha.

  • @GotNextVideo what does conveyed mean?

  • @mrdopeboymuzik

    In case you mean it:

    Convey:

    1. To take or carry from one place to another; transport.

    2. To serve as a medium of transmission for; transmit: wires that convey electricity.

    In this case:

    3. To communicate or make known; impart: "a look intended to convey sympathetic comprehension" (Saki).

  • @GotNextVideo where exactly does it deal with incest?

  • @ubershredder1989 The son and dad talking about their penises and cumming? Or when the son asks the dad if he would ever fuck him?

  • What a woinderful film....this trailer makes it seem like some cheap crappy love and relationship movie...

  • I quite like the trailer, it's got to be ironic. It's one of the most provocative movies around, yet it promotes itself as a happy-go-lucky suburban romcom.

  • No. I'd jerk off instead.

  • I can see why so many people were dissapointed with this film. The trailer is so light-in-the-pants, it reminds me of fucking Marley and Me. It was too fresh and spunky (no pun intended) for people to actually understand how devastating this film really was. So, I bet alot of couples went to it, thinking it was going to be about "love lost / love found" and they were slapped upside the head with a huge dose of pedophilia, rape and other candid subjects. A brilliant but very dark and REAL film.

  • Absolutely correct. It's amazing how the trailer excised all hints whatsoever of the pedophilia narrative, which is so very dark (and so damn funny!).

  • It IS meant to be satirical, but it flew over so many people's heads that whenever I talk movies with friends or family, and Happiness comes up, most of them groan and say stuff like "sick, disgusting, pornographic" etc etc.... I guess you have to know Todd Solonz to really get the film. Its so complex, yet right in your face like a fucking apple pie! I guess this one's meant for the artistic film buffs and not so much the "Maid in Manhattan" crowd.

  • This is soooo not a kid's movie lmao

  • this is honestly one of the worst trailers ive ever seen as far as portraying what the movie is about. it almost makes it seem like a borderline chickflic.

  • The best drama ever made.

  • This must be the film where the dad who is a pedophile who enjoys ass-fucking the friends of his son, and he's a headshrinker, the doorman who rapes his overweight neighbor, a man who spends his leisurely time jacking off on the phone, a boy who jerks off the balcony and after he is done, he tells the adult member he just came.

  • Wow, what a crappy summary.

  • this trailer portrays a completely different film,id say if u went to see de film because of this trailr u wud probly feel like de carpet was pulld under ur feet

  • I came!

  • This is the better version of American Beauty, I wrote a paper in college about it.

  • would love to read your paper sometime - this is a great, and often misunderstood film.

  • One of our times best director

  • Excellent film.

  • It's my movie icon.

I love it so much it's hard to me to see another Solondz' movie compelled to match it with this.

  • This movie is in the top ten list of the smartest movies ever

  • "I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you." "But I'm not laughing." -- has to be one of my favourite movie lines ever. And the fact that her name is Joy -- God, this movie is funny. The blackest possible comedy.

  • This movie is so tragi-comic but so good because it's close to real life. 1.12 that guy is the best.

  • watching this tonight definitely

  • The film is great. The humour is absolutely perfect and doesn't throw it in your face, as most comedies do. The best black comedy I have ever seen :)

  • I love this movie.

  • wow, this is advertised as a helluva lot 'lighter' than it actually is...

  • I was actually gonna make the same comment! Great film.

  • agree with both of you. the original wellspring trailer shows it to be MUCH darker.

  • I just watched it. Fucking loved it so much!!! :))) I'm probably gonna watch it again tonight lol. One of the best movies I've seen in a while. Very moving. Even though it's labeled as a comedy, it's got it's very touching moments.
