@DeadlyNectar88 I'm using a xbox too. If you need help with the controls, go to the menu, then options. A bit down you will find jets. You will be able to change your settings and controls. With the default RT will make you go forward, and dragging the RS down will make you go up :) Hope it helps

Guys starting out in jets is hard and takes some time getting used too. When i started out i crashed like crazy and hell i still have my moments where i lose control of the jet. But if you take time to just practice. its all about practicing. dont try and attacking people until you have the hang of basic movements. Fucking impossible,i use all the tips and its still a load of fucking bullshit and its impossible to catch up with them,im here going after enemy pilot he starts slowing down and magicly does a fucking backflip right behind me in a matter of seconds so he locks on to me with his fucking hax missles or some shit, i do a 180 turn while trying to lower my throtle then try to get out with after burner is that right?

@powersbro they get away cuz they slow down,therefore makinng a less angle,and so being faster,if they go fast and turn,you will notice it will take longer to make a 180 turn

@powersbro what you should do is bank left or right slow down as much as possible for 1-2 sec pull hard up till u face the opposite direction and throttle while doing it (add afterburns it makes it much better) its for sharp turn for chase or defensive maneuver, in no time you will be speeding the other direction ( you can add up few moves to get behind your chaser or disappear from him)

I also recomend when you find a enemy jet and you are about to engage. Taget them by pressing select when you get your cross hair over them. Make is much easier to find them if you lose track and to aim at them when your about to open fire!

They should have Tracer Darts in BF3, so instead of locking a vehicle's heat signature, it locks onto the dart, which negates the smoke/flare.

Im an amazing pilot possibly one of the best. My advice to all is to practise using your main machine gun. And most importantly get behind and enemy jet. Somethime i wonder why we have dof fights since theres load on tanks juicy with points. If ur starting out go for the tank forget the jet and gett them flares

*READ IF YOU DONT HAVE FLARES* A great way to get flares is to shoot down helpless enemy heli's. I know jets will be all over you with missles, so if they are just get behind them before they get behind you. Use all the manuevers in this vid to help. I got BF3 2 Months after release, so it was hard to get flares. All i did was keep shooting down enemy heli's, and before i knew it, i got flares. Just keep doing this until you get flares. Please thumbs this up to help people who dont have flares

I enjoy this tutorial quite a bit, however, I have one question about movement. I've played BF3 for a total of 23 hours now, and a lot of that time is spent in a jet. I've gotten IR Flares and Heat Seekers, as well as stealth, but lately I've noticed that I can't stay in the air long because people can turn much faster than I can. I believe I'm turning properly, I decelerate, and I bank, then I hit the afterburner. But still, I've not found the way to turn unbelievably fast. On the XBOX at least

everytime i play jet, i get shot down by heat seeking missles. and once i was in the air 10 seconds. and saw a enemy jet, then i had 3 seeking missles in my ass. And since flares needs to be unlocked. Makes impossible to kill anything since all enemy jets have heat seeking missles. Mayby it was a lot easier to kill kills on jet when BF3 first did come out, cos not many had the seeking missle things. But now everytime i try to fly jet i get shot down immidently.

@Barrosy One of the things I saw that you can do to unlock other things, and this may seem really shitty to do, is you can fly your jet into the enemy base, sit in front of their jets and get kills that way. The thing I did though was just cap flags while in the jet. It's hard to keep it on the ground and away from obstacles, but it's like 250 points for one cap.

@heke90 i agree that was the same for me the first time i flew cause i didn't get the game as soon as it came out but all you need to is get some assists and lots of spot bonuses and maybe disable 1 or 2 vehicles because i didn't get my first kill in a jet until i had unlocked stealth and disables are the same amount of points as kills anyway

@heke90 when you hear the light beep count to 3 then do a hard turn or turn at 310 speed and you will be fine ;)

@heke90 Try flying up to around 800 metres (you can tell by a box in the top right), wait until a tank is spotted, and point your nose at them. decrease speed, and open fire. because you are coming from so high up, people tend to forget you, and disregard you as a threat. you will likely get at least a vehicle disable, and if using an A-10 thunderbolt, you will destroy the vehicle and its occupants in 1 swoop. rinse and repeat.

@heke90 Play on rush, use the old fashion jets and just start firing enemy tanks and disabling vehicles with the gun, u will realize its pretty powerful, if u know how to fly already, u will get flares and heatseekers quickly. Thats what i did when i was stuck there.

No need to cry, i start to fly like anybody else. Nothing unlocked. It's not simple when you can't move in air right way and you need to kill somone too. First of all, ypu need to go to not-fully server, like 10-12 ppl on it, with AIR maps and fast spawn. And try it try it try it, i got 500+ deaths of myself before i start to understand what and why and get kills in air. No pain no gain.

@heke90 I have a solution for your problem. It takes a ton of practice, but once mastered it should work roughly 3 out of 5 times. I dont use flares, so im very prone to heat seekers, however, my friend, they can be dodged ;D When you see the lock on light turn solid (meaning full lock), wait to hear the fast beeping (missile is tracking) wait a second or two depending on enemy distance, now, hit the brake, and bank hard to the side. The missiles dont have as much traction, and you can juke it!

@heke90 same thing happened to me, when you take off, fly AWAY from the battlefield, then fly back towards it and shoot at enemy land vehicles, you'll only have a little bit of time before you get shot down, so make it quick.

@DecoratedEvil I used to be like that. See once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you couldn't do it before. Make sure you mark your target, then go really high without stalling and swoop down hitting it from the top. It takes practice but it works.

OMG... bf3 is just arcade with arcade jets... nobody need this crap about 4 generation and other stuff... there is nothing about real jets here, staring from takeoff (which just joke in bf3 comparing to real life) to speed, controls and weapons. it is more ww2 planes in bf3 than 4 generation... how about air-to-air missiles with 130km range? that need just 1 sec to lock?

Rolling the jet isn't called a barrel roll. That's an aileron roll. A barrel roll is when your jet flies around a cylindrical pattern (or a 'barrel') - it's use is for decreasing forward movement. A real barrel roll can be used to get behind a pursuer.
