  • Ok we'd like to see a guitar battle on youtube please: Gilbert vs. Petrucci vs. Malmsteen

  • Ooooh...He never ceases to amaze and inspire me! :D

  • He looks like Paul Gilbert with long hair and in Soviet Russia, Paul Gilbert still plays the guitar.

  • @Meta1Head91 Damn straight. Haha! :D

  • He looks a bit like Timothy Olyphant with long hair.

  • I WAS BORN IN THE YEAR PAUL TAUGHT AT THIS CLINIC!!

  • I was watching this and my mom walked in so i switched it to porn cuz its so nasty.

  • EVERYBODY SHUT UP! i can't hear the video with your talking in the way

  • Yawwwnnnnn another fretboard masturbator, none of these guys despite their undeniable technical abillty, have never made a stand-alone great and memorable rock song or whatever genre they try to dominate.

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 ...as opposed to your preferred type of masturbation, you mean?

  • @777wanabe I'd rather pull my dick then listen to this shit, It would be more pleasurable than listening to a guitar geek, which is what Vai, Gilbert and Satriani are, not gods. They basically jumped on a bandwagon un-intentionally started by the great Van Halen and have warped guitar playing into a lifeless technical exercise to be appreciated by a minority "in the know". How Fucking sad. But seriously, name me a Paul Gilbert song I can expect to hear on the radio?.. I rest my case.

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 uhh any song before the "get out of my yard" album, which was his first guitar instrumental album which didn't happen till 2005? your case rests.

  • actually you've got me in a ranty mood. first off, Halen is pretty much the same age as any of these guys, save for Gilbert, who is the youngest at a youthful 45 years old. how little do you actually think about this before you get so opinionated? not rhetorical. Steve Vai is 51, riffed off of Satriani, and had a disgustingly wide array of influence, including Halen, of whom he is good friends with. Satriani started guitar for hendrix, and is 55, halen's 56. you dumb.

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 you can't be serious...radio airplay is actually your benchmark for musical value? This is video from a guitar clinic..of course its going to be geeky. its not a 'write a successful pop song clinic.' As far as jumping on a bandwagon, i think you need to re-evaluate the timeline of this type of guitar playing...Vai was shredding the same time Van Halen was, he was just doing his own thing in Zappa's band. I guess Zappa wouldn't know anything about musical creativity, huh?

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 BTW - if you would rather 'pull your dick' then why weren't you doing that in the first place instead of listening to this? Already had your fill of that after watching Bieber videos for 4 hours straight?

  • @777wanabe Wow, typical 15 year old Bieber line. Next please.

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 U got me...15 years old.

  • Thanks for stopping by to troll. Technical exhibitions are not often heard on the radio, so don't hold your breath. In the meantime, search this: "Mr. Big To Be With You".

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 Actually his band Mr. Big has a number of hit songs, one of them being "To be with you"

  • @Thespeakerofmanytru8 have you ever looked through his song list? you don't get it. just because somebody is more dedicated than usual and wants to be fully capable of expression regardless the requirements, doesn't make them robots.

  • Fuckehead!?

  • What is that guitar that Paul played in the 'ol Racer X days? The headstock kinda looks like and Ibanez...

  • He kinda' loox like a gurl

  • Damn that solo he starts @ 0:59 is some the coolest shred i have ever heard!!!

  • 00:20 commence Buckethead influence

  • @TehDevilBringer-He taught Buckethead. True story.

  • @BaneOfXistence4 For a year.

  • What is the name of the cable that he used?

    Thanks to those who know.

  • Michael Cera shreds!

  • um....wow

  • sounds like shawn lane the first one

  • What the fuck is he doing at 0:32 it sounds and looks so cool

  • @ToxikWaltz hes playing F on each string and using slides to get the next notes. for example 1st fret on the e string then slide up then 6th fret on the b string then slide up and so on

  • @ToxikWaltz lol i know right! he is hitting and sliding up to the same pitched E note on each string of the guitar. i'm trying it right now and it is hard as hell

  • Wooh. Does someone have tab for the first lick please?

  • I'm gonna rip off that videogame lick. Thank you again Paul. :D

  • he looks like Ashton Kutcher sometimes, in this video.. lol

  • Two words:

    Michael. Cera.

  • @brohanskiguitar

    that was four words

  • @MrObame well arent you a smartass? hahahaha

  • You can hear the same lick descending same note on every string Paul does at 39 Seconds in Thai Fighter Swarm by Buckethead at about 11 seconds into the song

  • @2cds1nightstand nice, youre right

  • close your eyes and you'll imagine yngwie malmsteen shredding hahaha

  • Michael Cera with long hair?

  • @1465225568

that is exactly what i said

  • @1465225568 fuck,who knew paulie bleeker could shred?lmao

  • @1465225568 Nah that's Christian Muenzner

  • This is so... Buckethead....

  • @blugguitar I wonder

  • @blugguitar well he did teach buckethead, which is why they probably sound similar

  • @machinehead891

He did the four year course in a year, I think buckethead had things to teach Paul Gilbert too

  • I need to grow more fingers!

  • Hey, Micheal J Fox, stop taking videos of Paul Gilbert!

  • He is buckethead,,, check out his right hand grip and long pinky fingers.

  • @jf99151 you are a fool.

  • @jf99151 Oh and btw, it's your EAR more than anything that should tell u PG and Buckethead are not the same guy.

  • 0:33 sounds like a turkey XD

  • lovely stuff

  • I wish I had fingers like a spider crab too..............he's amazing.

  • i want the fuckin tabs for the same note thing

  • @kaynek00l

:D:D:D:D:D just play one note on each string on your guitar

  • @kaynek00l from high to low.....1,6,10,15,20, etc....says he uses an F, so pretty simple

  • @kaynek00l its not that hard to figure out lol

  • damm.... his sound has really changed!

  • PG owns

  • In Soviet Russia, guitar plays Paul Gilbert.

  • @Ciachoo NOBODY. PLAYS PAUL GILBERT. ANYWHERE. Now please, GTFO >>

  • Demonstrating that your guitar sounds like an old video game proves your tone sucks and there is no emotion, no ?

  • @arnaud360 R-tard

  • @brunthroath6912 I think "R-Tard" sounds like "Ar-tard" . So the correct spelling would be "retard". But it's ok, it's not your fault... you're just R-tarded I guess?

  • @arnaud360 Now why playing video game music gives you a sucky tone? and why does it ultimately gives you no emotion? That was a retarded comment coming from a guitar newby such as yourself. Paul has feeling in his songs and his tone is always been awesome and hard to reproduce. How can you say something like that? Get your facts straight before commenting on a above high level guitar player such Paul.

  • @brunthroath6912 Omg.. learn to read. I said that his guitar tone sounds like an old gameboy, not that he's a gamer.. And sorry, for me, the only thing that makes him a "good" player is his technique. No emotion & bad tone, according to MY tastes. Thanks for respecting my opinion, and if you don't wish to do that, get out of youtube.

  • @arnaud360 idk man i agree that his tone isnt amazing sounding like vais or anyone elses but i really appreciate the fact that he doesnt need to use things like delay or reverb to make his playing shine, its so raw and you can hear every note and its flawless idk thats just how i feel.

  • the camera quality made him looked like a zombie

  • Paul Gilbert doesn't go mad with speed, but rather speed goes mad with him!

  • Chuck Norris opens doors for Paul...

  • Pause at :44. Fucking scary stare.

  • @Halocon even his wife?

  • the same note every string lick sounds like some alien language. It just proves that Paul Gilbert really isnt human; ive been trying to find a cooler more all-round guitar player than him for years, and i just cant. He's not of this earth...

  • @TheNelsonGonzalez Agreed check out Guthrie Govan if you havent already that dude is also amazing

  • his playing style is sooo changed...i loved it back then, but i think know he has achieved a more "mature" approach to the instrument

  • those 2 people should appologise for missing the dislike button

  • Paul Gilber is Paul Gilbert... OMG!!! is... PAUL GILBERT! HOLY SHIT!

  • He DOES look like cera xD

  • Man I wish I could play like Paul.

  • he does look kinda like Micheal cera but a lot less bitchy and fagy

  • god damn its so clean

  • Paul Gilbert's the best guitar player ever. Technically and he has feel too, just listen to Mad at the World off of Superheroes just great stuff.

  • its freaky cause his pinky is as long as my entire hand strechted out

  • Ladies & Gentlemen, paul gilbert in his 100% ;)

  • He is Freakin' Awesome!!! First time I saw this vid.

  • HOW THE FUCK does he do that thing at 0:33?

  • he shows you like 2 seconds afther that

  • hitting the same not like that is freakin hard. its harder to do than alot of really hard solos!

  • I can only do three F's ='(

  • @XxSameerxX

thats pretty good bro. I just noticed that i screwed up my first comment. i accidently spelled "not" instead of note.

  • because you're a bass player? XD

  • lmfao, no I can't do 6 F's at that speed, only 3 :P

  • Actually it is "only" 5 F´s But no human can play it up Pauls tempo. Paul is inhuman.

  • @NisseEricsson

I agree, but I'm pretty sure he hits one "F" per string.

But then again, he is god.

  • You can only make 5 "F"´s. 1 fret e string, 6th at B-string, 10th at G-string, 15th at D-string and 20th on A string. You would need a 25th fret to take the F-note on the E-string.

  • @NisseEricsson

Isn't the the 13th fret on the low E an F?

  • Yes it is, but it is not the same note as the ones I mentioned earlier. That F is lower. It is the second octave, while Paul plays the third F-octave.

  • @NisseEricsson

    ahhh, I see...

    'Kinda understand now.

  • that shit of hiting the same note on each string is fucking hard!!

  • His tone is pretty Yngwie-ish in this.

  • People say Aliens came to earth and taught the Egyptians. I say Paul went to their planet and taught them.

  • @XxSameerxX Chuck Norris

  • @XxSameerxX

lol I'm sure ancient astronaut theorists would contend that Paul IS an alien

  • @XxSameerxX I knwo one thing when they return...I have a 45 for em......

  • Gilbert is God.

  • He kind of looks like an older Michael Cera in this video.

  • @TheMandusa with long hear and kicking asses at guitar

  • Why are there no quality videos of this?? It's fucking awesome!

  • I think they are low quality because this is only on VHS.

    I may be wrong.

  • That's a good theory, I think you might be right.

  • @TimJMorrison a worn out vhs tape that is...

  • @H057IL3 the audio for the most part is intact therefore I feel that its quality but a dvd quality image and sound would have been awesome no doubt!

  • Agree.

  • oh my jeeeeeez!!!

    paul gilbert is BEAST.

  • What year was this?

  • 1987 Anahiem Guitar Clinic

  • gilberts a fuckin monster ! i wish i knew how to organise time well enough to get good at alot of techniques ! cause there seems to be nothing he cant do really well....and he must be like early 20's here !

  • shit miles of machines jeff loomis at the end

  • I'm pretty sure back in '87 Paul had a PINK guitar and his skin wasn't green. Too bad 1987 didn't have a better way of recording high quality, I'd love a copy of this entire clinic footage in HD.

    Humiliation, 1987.

  • paul came first

  • @AceOfClubs009 i came

  • PG taught Buckethead

  • yes paul taught buckethead for one year, but his main teacher was actually rusty cooley. not many people know this, but it helps to get your facts straight.

  • Rusty cooley taught Buckethead? Are you sure about that? I know bucket was really taught by Pebber Brown

  • lol yeah, brain fart. my bad, yes it was pepper brown.

  • Dood ya totally trolled me. I searched everywhere for that and didn't find anything. That was good or you were just ignorant to call me out on my facts.

  • did you even bother to read my next comment, or the response to my first one? sorry your probably half blind so i shouldn't be too hard on you, but come on read the comments.

  • Bro you need to chill. I mean if you can't take a joke then you really shouldn't be on youtube.

  • Hopefully one day i can be As good as u

  • it would be awesome to be at a guitar press conference. "play fast!!!"

  • Paul Gilbert is an intelligent guitar player!

  • wow

  • I tried this last night...and its impossible at the speed he does it...i mean the same note different strings thing...impossible!

  • lol dude keep trying ive been at it for almost a year and i can get the same type sound at speed but only on 4 strings

he tells you the key in this vid

"METRONOME" hope you get it dude

  • Yeahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is it just me or does he look a bit like micael cera in this vid XD

  • lol, i watched year one the other night and i thought it was a young gilbert

  • ha ha classic film ceras the bomb digidy in it XD

  • @djtall23 fuck me ur right

  • is he wearing mascara?

  • probably, I think this is from the 80's, most rock/metal players did back then!

Random tangent here but I think its one of the things that is so funny about alot of metalheads nowadays who get really worked up with the whole 'emo' thing today saying they look like fags and such...most of their music heroes went through a very similar stage in the 80s themselves..Metallica used to wear girls jeans, Hetfield used to have a perm! Even the guys from slayer went through the guyliner+tight clohing

  • was?

  • Was? Hes not dead dude

  • fucking awsome

    on of the three legends

  • true

  • do you have pictures of buckethead playing without a bucket or mask at bonnaroo music fest? i think you have some issues to work out with yourself man...whether you knew it was a figure of speech or not why would you react like that to a joke..even if he was serious thats a stupid comment so that guy must be really stupid but to argue with a stupid person makes you more stupid.

  • yeah it was a joke...are you fucking stupid dude?

  • WIKIPEDIA CAN BE EDITED YOU PRICKSHIT

  • i knew he was buckethead all along

  • I love the face he makes after he plays the same note on each string.

  • man....the shredding at the end there... so good lol

  • his voice sounds like Dane Cook in this video

  • is he like the coolest humble fun dude ever or what ?

  • Gilbert or Malmsteen, who would win in a shred-off???

  • gilbert.. defo..

  • gilbert, lol, altho it is personal preference. Malmsteen only knows the 5th mode of harm. minor, whereas gilbert covers all areas of music, AND plays faster.

  • no way man yngwie knows way more than just the 5th mode. but yeah paul is better..but i dont think paul could do some of the things yngwie does. actually he probably can lol

  • No I know, but that's the only scale he ever freaking uses; that's what I meant. Well Yngwie is good, but I prefer Paul, he's more precise, and yngwie sounds good as well, but not as clean as gilbert, imo.

  • if you like gilbert check out guthrie govan he is giving all the shredders a run for their money incredible playing

  • yeah haha. actually their both really clean, and idk why so many people bag on yngwie so much. i mean, i havent seen any vids of paul doing yngwie, know what i mean? oh you should check out shawn lane too hes fucking siiickk..

  • oi man, paul does do vids of yngwie, hes better

  • Shawn Lane influenced Gilbert a great deal and so did Yngwie, if you listen to Gilbert's early stuff , his solos ARE neo-classical

  • HAWT! did anyone catch that he was playing "frenzy" at some point?

  • Yeah you can definently hear what buckethead got that from ;)

  • Actually Buckethead got the tapping-idea through some stuff that Shawn Lane did and Bucket tried to mimick that sound. Of course, Paul Gilbert was the one who showed him loads of bottleg-videos of Shawn Lane so I guess he had something to do with it

  • buckethead sucks :-D

paul gilbert is better, so why talk about buckethead on his videos ??
