I've found, personally, that the bubbles kinda randomly through the mold is usually due to pour spout misplacement. I try to make my pour spouts on a side of the object being cast (so it flows down the spout and down one edge of the mold, keeping all (or almost all) the air above the resin at all times.
Like the first one, love to see it with the grate. I like the second one also however would not a softer black help ie; blue and brown mixed together that would give the shadow effect a better depth. I have not done much casting but I think larger vent holes would help move the resin faster. Or joining smaller vents to a larger one if space is an issue. As always love your great work.
@437cosimo Thanks for the color thoughts. I will try out a couple and see what works best. On the venting, I have done just that and went back in and opened them up more and added a few more and it does seem to be helping. :)
@sbaynenscc The rivets actually are casting fine. The bubbles are internal in straps of the gate. I'm adding some more vents and recasting it today. :)
Bubbles can result, as you know, both from air trapped in the resin before pouring and air trapped BY the resin while pouring (air that's already in the mould and can't escape easily.
as suggested, a vibrating plate should be an effective and cheap way to go. if it doesn't work it can be a matter of ventilation channels
@Shannariano I've been working to pour it evenly to reduce adding air to the resin, but I think the mold is so complex, it just can't degas itself easily. Too many pockets. Going to try putting on the vibrating table today and see if that helps. Even if I can get a 95% good cast, I would be happy. :)
You make an interesting reminder to revisit the vent channels. Perhaps opening them up more would help a little. Another quick fix I will try out today. Thanks. :)
@SaimHannRookie Not sure vibrating will solve this problem, but its a quick option to check out since I already have the equipment. Will try it out today. Thanks.
Do you use a pressure chamber when casting? If not that can be a good way to improve all your casting not just for this mold. Yes its an investment but since you do a lot of casting it shouldn't be that much when compared to the gains from it.
@Wortiger Hmmm, pressure casting is an interesting idea. Haven't considered it before as I haven't had this problem before. ;) I think your right in that its probably what is needed to fix this type of casting. Thank you for the idea.
personly i would go for a singal sidid mold so a one part mold rather than a 2 part mold

Just add some vine in the column corners. That'll give you your detail and keep the corner playable.

@CubicleKK Hmm. Interesting idea. I will give that some consideration. I guess I feel like the inside of the arena is too inhospitable for plants. :)

@oniakki Oooh. Good point. Hadn't considered that. If I can't get better casts out of it I will remold it with that in mind. :) Thanks!

More vents have helped quite a bit. Still a few bubbles, but I should be able to get workable casts from it regularly now. :)

Is the pot life of you resin such that you can paint into the rivets on an open mold, then close it for pouring the bulk of the strapping?

Why the hell do you have that douche bag music on a miniature terrain video?
