The reason Canada weathered the recession as well as it did was because our banks were regulated (unlike nearly every other banking system in the world), which Harper opposed tooth and nail when he was in opposition. The huge surplus the Liberals left behind helped a bit too =)

Also, if our system alone would actually "weather the recession", then the other parties should not have been scaring the public into believing we were going to enter one in the 2008 election.

These politicians are so insincere or just totally stupid. Most of them are "for" things that diametrically opposed to each other yet they think they can have both. All of these candidates talk about persevering rights and freedoms, but have no problem taxing silver at 20% - taxing money itself! - or taking money from one group of people and giving to another. It's sickens me. You can't have equal rights and also steal money from your own citizens! You can have it both ways!

I will never vote NDP cause they do not represent my best interest through the support of Unions. Unions had their place in history but they are an archaic method of trying to protect workers. It seems rational to me that a group of people, similar in many aspects, want to defend and stand for their collective interests. If you look, you'll see this kind of cultural/race distinction applies everywhere in the world, hence why Blacks voted for the incompetent Jacob Zuma in SA.

The real issues Canada should focus on now are immigration, how to keep a free market economy, and how to plan for the foreseen scarcities of the future in natural resources around the world. As population explodes in the Planet, countries should focus on planning ahead, bc we are going to need oil, food, water, wood, metals, and energy reserves. Canada is favored in that it has a low population, so it's time to capitalize on that. The PM is right that there is a need to have top-notch jets.

Canada's economy is only doing well because the Liberals had money left over from the last Prime Minister. Any one who thinks that tax cuts to the largest corporations in Canada is completely deluded. The NDP had high taxes for corporations for TEN YEARS in BC, and BC's economy shot straight up. Economists unanimously agree that tax cuts in a recession are just going to lead to more problems. I don't want to live like the United States, with such income disparity, so lets get rid of Harper.

Plus the whole system is messed up when the Bloc (who want to LEAVE canada) get a couple more votes than the Green party yet get 30 more seats. VOte NDP to get some government reform! (or Green)
