  • Julie was the 60s , no doubt about it Groovy ,,,,,

  • I suddenly have the urge to get drunk, consume copious amounts of drugs with my fashion victim bestfriend in London!

  • what on earth is this 'song' supposed to be about?Probably about pot smoking or whatever nonsense was 'fab' that week.

  • I watched this video on a Bob Dylan special and had my hair cut off the next day :-)

  • Truck drivin music.

  • Great one !!!!! love it.....

  • @lambcannon I'm not sure if she was a lesbian icon, but she did it for me! She married Keith Tippett so a bit of a disappointment to those of us of both sexes who were waiting in vain!

  • Oh, shit... At the best part (the Hammond solo of Brian Auger), the broadcasting was cutted.

On 17 Apr.2011 I had the privilege to see Mr. Auger live on Virada Cultural, São Paulo (a free outdoor show @ Largo de São Bento).

  • Yes, thanks for posting. Have the CDs,, but nice to see the images that went with the sound.

  • Wonderful to see this, brings back so many memories. I had my hair cut like Julie's after seeing this. I'd forgotten!

Julie sang this with Ade Edmondson as the theme to Ab Fab.

  • awesome Bob Dylan cover song ever, thanks for putting this one on youtube...:)

  • I used to do my eyes like Julie! Dad wasn't pleased!

  • I remember this when I was a child too. It made a lasting impression on me then and I still love it now. Those were the best times, I'm so glad I grew up in that era.

  • Who was that at the very Start of the footage? It looked a bit like a young toothy Roy Castle?

  • @norrisonthespot

    Simon Dee.

  • Simon Dee never did TOTP!

  • love her ... and such an awsome song. xxx

  • An absolute classic song.

  • I went to see the group before and after the record became a hit at the local R&B club at the Black Prince Old Bexley. Loved it then... love it now!

  • as 'wheels on fire' comes in, the drop in key is so sweet, then the triple lift in key- gorgeous.

  • i remember watching this on top of the pops back in 1965, believe it or not.

i especially liked the end section and i still do

  • always loved this still do brilliant top preformer

  • Are they using a mellotron on this? Sure sounds like it

  • wonderful, i saw her in the late 60's at the Marquee in Wardour street, what an act, thx for posting.

  • absolute classic. This was in its time

  • no dusty sounds like julie

  • Absolutely fantastic to see the original tv appearances!! Thank you

  • Wer braucht da noch DSDS u. wer ist eigentlich Dieter Bohlen, war der da schon geboren?

  • That bloke at the end made me die laughing!!

  • Beautiful Julie

  • 5*****

  • It is 2010. It doesn't matter how long ago- you can';t put a great song down. I have totally loved this song since I was a teenager. This version, it's intensity, it's melody, it's drama, its vocal delivery and it's musicianship is simply an absolute gem of pop music/rock music at its best. Bloody awesome!

  • Was this on the Marmalade label?

  • @vonpork In the U.S. it was on the Atco label - that original 45 like Itchycoo park-Small Faces, and the Arbors-The Letter still give me chills. Classics like these and Time of the Season-Zombies of the 60's and 70's will still be relevant another 40 or more years from now!

  • @vonpork Yes, it was. See 45cat.com/image/003/julie-driscoll-brian-auger-and-the-trinity-this-wheels-on-fire-marmalade.jpg

  • Add a w w w in front of that ip address

  • for quite a while the bands sang live on TOTP over a recorded backing, given the lack of monitors and one off performance (not expecting to be on you tube 42 years later) i think a great job

  • I totally love everything about this, from Julie's haircut, to the bum vocal notes, but this is after all a song for a wailing Banshee not Celine Dion,

  • Jools=phowahrrrr!

  • This song's a timeless classic, I'm listening to this 41 years after its release and still love it as much in 2009 as I did in 1968!

  • @lightninghector those where the good days

  • A live vocal..... unusual for TOTP....loved the Mellotron sound on this .....mind blowing at the time...pop records were beginning to sound more sophisticated around this time

    Jim

  • I wonder if she sang this live, somehow it doesn't sound as menacing...

  • a record of a genoration

  • That's Simon Dee at the head of this clip. He was a DJ/ tv presenter who fronted many of the periods best chat shows His career was brilliant and sadly short lived.

  • Excellent!!

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember loving the record at the time....especially to a young child it was mysterious and haunting. It took me another 7 years before I started to get into Dylan and know what it was all about...

Doesn't Julie sound a lot like Dusty Springfield? I didn't realize how much at the time.

    Cheers.

    G.

  • @glamfakir She sounds, and looks, like she predates Annie Lennox, which makes me wonder how much she was influenced by her. There's now a line of R&B influenced U.K. singers from Julie Driscoll to Lennox to Joss Stone and Duffy.
