  • where can you get those cinder blocks?

  • It seems a little to short and not very stable I might modify it a bit when I make mine. But I guess for starters it will work.

  • absolutely brilliant, makes forging possible for a poor college kid. Thanks a million for your advice, the video is complete enough that I don't even have any questions even though i know zero on the subject.

  • look under his name to the right, he has a 2 part vid on how to make this.

  • Good Job Trent

My first one was something like this. I got a free 55 gal drum at work and cut a hole in the top and in the side for the air supply(wife's hair dryer) with a hammer and cold chisel.

    Worked for a long time.

  • One star for each cat!

  • nice cat :)

  • Are you kidding? That cat is famous!

  • @catalinux007leiro Hopefully, kitty doesn't come up missing. He has always talking about that there are many ways to skin a cat and now he has a way to cook 'im too.

  • thank u 4 responding to my question great info.

  • Regarden them cats in your videos...my granny gave me a recipe for roasting them critters over a hot fire. ummm um, anyone know where to get a hot fire?

  • im looking to melt metal would this forge work for that , if not what would i need for melting metals?

  • It would have to be modified to enclose the crucible but yes, this will get hot enough to melt almost any metal.

  • when you say enclose, would that mean i could use another break drum or something similar?

  • looks like its only suitable to forge a knife..how about a sword? you got the idea?.

  • i would build a long forge, or 'tunnel' forge. google it

  • You are just about the clearest, easiest to understand explainer of things that I've ever come across (and I do that for a living myself). So kudos to you and keep at it!

  • thanks for the praise, I love what I do.

  • looks like a cool forge!

you seem to have a lot of cats around, if they arnt pets consider calling an organization to trap and fix em so they dont just keep having more litters

  • could i use a cinder block as a anvil?

  • i wouldnt suggest it. they might crack and shatter. most likely they will.

  • the free forge has found a new home

  • i have a homemade forge made from a big truck brake drum. i've since upgraded and no longer need it. i will let a beginner HAVE it for free. i'm in s.e. georia, just drop me a line here on youutube

  • if you have plans for a brake drum forge or pics of one can you send me it

  • on a video showing how to make a pattern welded steel knife out of chainsaw chains, when they got the steel hot they put borax on it as a flux, what i want to know is,do you need to do this, and when are you going to show how to do this,or just a damascus knife?

  • umm..where do you get an anvil?

it's the last item i need..

  • lol at the kitten. Nice vid ive been looking for a brake drum instructional for awhile.

  • Well, the biggest issue is going to be your flange. I 1 " flange isnt going to match very well with your drum or rotor, so I'd suggest taking a look at a 2" piece. Remember, whatever works!

  • i have a question. ok im wanting to start this stuff but i have limted resorces and supplys so i was wondering if you could showus easy ways to forge knifes. ty

  • Thats coming up in some future videos. I already have one showing how to make a railroad knife but its on the site and that how I take your money! :)

  • In the first part, you showed using a hair dryer as the airflow source. Can you use something larger? In other words, is there is a way to have too much air, and how do you gauge that?

  • Thats easy....If the fire pot erupts setting you and your hair on fire, you've got too big a blower.

In all seriousness, for this pot without a table, its plenty of air. As you get bigger and deeper fire, you will have to have more airflow.

  • i heard on the grapevine that cinder blocks do not like heat, and will actually shatter if they are heated to hot, do you think they would get too hot using this setup? -jake

  • Not at all, they are not taking the heat directly so you should have no issue at all.

  • good vid mate,,,,5 strz...

  • Hah! The man himself. I am moving up in the world. Do I have to send an "I love you" vid to you as well? :)

  • hahaha...nahhh..its all good mate...I get the idea...lol...

  • Absolutely. Coal will be a breeze to melt something with. Charcoal is going to be a bit tougher because it needs a deeper fire.

  • could you get metal hot enought to forge weld in this forge?

  • thanks hon,its amazing just how simple something can be to make.
