It's Emily Haines from Metric. And she was singing in this style before Stars was even created...and WAY before their collaboration with Broken Social Scene. Emily and Amy were close friends when they wre in their teens though and growing up in similar musical conditions probably lead to their similar styles more than anything.

Plus Emily Haines just rocks, so who WOULDN"T want to sounds like her?

well i know you posted this a long time ago but this girl (Amy Millan) and the girl from Metric ( Emily Harris) are also in another canadian band called "Broken Social Scene" so the way the songs are sang in that band could influence the way they sing in their other bands leading to the fact they found alike.

The first time I listened to this song sang by Emily, it struck me as odd, I was used to Amy's vocals in the live version (which was the only one I knew), but after a few plays, I love it.

Both versions are awesome in their own ways, very different moods, equally amazing.
