Still hooked on cellophane, Hanging 'round the mall, and all. Each penny numbs the pain. Sends you gently for the fall. I followed you last night, I saw you turn your lights out. I know it wasn't right, I watched in fear and doubt. It's gotten to be that way, (Going, going, gone.) What did you do today? (Going, going, gone.)
Look good in that red dress, I bet the boyfriend's happy, Your face is scarred with age, You're twenty-three but, how can that be? Still hooked on cellophane, Killing time with Gin and lime. Each second numbs the pain, Love's just another rhyme. It's gotten to be that way, (Going, going, gone.) I'm scared but I'm okay, (Going, going, gone.)
i dont kno...me im a techno (trance, house, DnB, dubstep, etc...) kind of guy but my best friend said u should listen to this...i did...i gotta say its nice..its not my style..but im not hating on it...so ima say the same i say when i comment on techno....for all those haters...dont listen to this if u dont like it and dont waste ur time wit negative comments...
It's Emily Haines from Metric. And she was singing in this style before Stars was even created...and WAY before their collaboration with Broken Social Scene. Emily and Amy were close friends when they wre in their teens though and growing up in similar musical conditions probably lead to their similar styles more than anything.
Plus Emily Haines just rocks, so who WOULDN"T want to sounds like her?
well i know you posted this a long time ago but this girl (Amy Millan) and the girl from Metric ( Emily Harris) are also in another canadian band called "Broken Social Scene" so the way the songs are sang in that band could influence the way they sing in their other bands leading to the fact they found alike.
This is the first time I've listened to this version after hearing the Sad Robots version with Amy. I can definitely say that I prefer Amy. The song is much more tuneful when she perform it.
The first time I listened to this song sang by Emily, it struck me as odd, I was used to Amy's vocals in the live version (which was the only one I knew), but after a few plays, I love it.
Both versions are awesome in their own ways, very different moods, equally amazing.
okay so the way i found this song is a show called Queer as Folk [you should check it out but i warn you it is very very very graphic and dont watch it if you're homophobic] but this fits in perfectly with the episode its in i love this song now!
its emily haines, shes done collaborations with the stars, and broken social scene, and metric is her band too, on top of her solo career, the girl is AMAZING.
