With Tarja.Nightwish was a study copy of Within Temptation..the Nightwish with Anette is the REAL Nightwish

Tarja co-founded Nightwish with Tuomas and Emppu back in 1996, the same year Within Temptation was founded.

Anette was singing in Alyson Avenue that year, and years afterwards. It was a band that sounded like ABBA.

So no, Nightwish with Anette is more like ABBA and Alyson Avenue. On the other hand, Tarja helped CREATE NIGHTWISH and gave it it's distinctive style with her classical vocals, something Anette would NEVER be able to accomplish.

Are you currently aware that it doesn't really matter what's right and what's wrong regarding Tarja and her role in the band? They were a great band and they are a great band. Yes she was there in the beginning because Tuomas asked her but ALL of them shaped the band. It wasn't like "Hey let's do acoustic music" -Tarja sings- "Never mind METAL!" No no no. It was obv a combination of things including Tuomas's sudden infatuation with Metal at the time of the forming.

I was responding to the guy who said NW sounds more like NW with Anette, which is complete wildassed bullshit obviously since Anette had ZERO to do with what Nightwish was, and her musical style was FAR removed from the style Nightwish created.

While I agree that NW doesn't sound "more like NW with Anette", I disagree that she moved them. NW has always been about combing metal with symphonic orchestra. That is what they still do. Vocally, Tarja got less and less operatic and wanted to change her voice to a more mainstream sound. Just listen to Oceanborn and then Century Child as proof. NW is still NW.

I know what the demo was. But after that time Tuomas was a foreign exchange student here in US and his "family" took him to a Metalica show which was his first "taste" of metal ever. After that he pretty engulfed himself in it and started listening to a lot of Theater Of Tragedy (one of the first symphonic metal bands like this) and was heavily influenced by that.

PS: Tuomas recorded an album with Darkwoods My Betrothed in 1995, one year before forming Nightwish, so he couldn't have not already had metal influence when he recorded the NW demo in 1996.

Darkwoods My Betrothed is a black metal band first off. Tuomas did indeed do keyboards for them (not sure if he actually toured with them) but it was Theater of Tragedy and there use of metal/orchestra/classical vocals that inspired him with NW.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought Anette's version of this song is great. Her "Heeeyeeyaya" or w/e sounds more like what the song is trying to convey for me. Sounds more like a siren trying to call the sailors.

Tarja's version kind of annoyed me. Still great though. Having different versions of the same song is good to me.

And people, obv it's going to sound different with a new singer, but NW isn't about to stop doing their hits because of some whiny ass bitches on youtube.

Singing in a mid-range tone is not belting. Go find some Janis Joplin videos and note the difference between how she sings and how Anette sings.

Anette has a very soft voice which indicates she is just using her throat and vocal cords, not really getting any power in her delivery.

Show me at what point in this video you think she is "belting".

Well Anette is using her vocal chords seeing how that's how one sings, but she is using her diaphragm when she belts in chest voice....she wouldn't be able to if she wasn't. Anette does have "light" voice but that's more in regards the to color of it, not the power.

She doesn't belt so much in this song, besides the little HEYYYAAA parts, but I know she belts in a lot of other songs ie: Romanticide, Sleeping Sun, DCoW, CMB, HtH etc

Their songs focused on Tarja's vocals, and were written specifically for her voice.

Without her voice, the old songs sound like they are being performed by a cover band.

And you are mistaken concerning what Tarja told the band. She did not say she would leave after the Once album, she said she wanted to record one more album with NW and do one more tour.

If they had accepeted that, we wouldn't be discussing Anette because Tarja would have still been in the band for this latest album, they would have toured with her, and then she would have left on good terms, where perhaps in the future there could have been a reunion.

That'll never happen at this point.

So REALLY she MADE something which didn't exist just as much as the other members.
