(1) Ummm....OK. So I watched this vid as you requested orge and at NO time did you actually refute what Ian claims in his video. All you basically said was a bunch of "he doesn't know what he's talking about" and "He needs to read the indoctrination papers I've read" and "I think he's dumb". Soooo...at what point do you actually offer real evidence to counter what he said? You do realize all you did was make ad hom attacks the entire vid right? You do realize this right? You didn't actually
@orge refute ANYTHING he said right? Do you not get that? Maybe you did that in another vid and I haven't seen it yet where you go into detail about where Ian is wrong with actual examples and papers and such? Saying things like "Where are his actual geologic maps?" doesn't actually refute what he's saying as incorrect. I kinda thought you had a grasp on geology but maybe I was wrong? You say your a geophysicist but I haven't seen any evidence for that yet orge. I'll watch Claire's vid too.
@Equestions Thrusting and folding are commonly understood geologic mechanisms. It is well understood because you can see it on a grand scale and a small scale by doing a geologic survey. The barrage of photos during the video showcase how folding and thrusting can create a "reversal of the geologic column". My personal favorite part is at 2:00 when I show slickensides at the valley of fire as he is saying they dont exist.
@Equestions This video is not meant to be a comprehensive discussion of structural geology, rather I simply wanted to show examples of "overthrusting". This does not baffle geologists, rather it is well understood. It can be verified with a geologic survey (which produce geologic maps 2:34) and various geophysical techniques such as a seismic survey (1:21). I do a lot of ad hom attacks...but hey its YT.
"If you look up the physical process... you would understand it" you say - I don't think he would. People like him would cling to any hay straw that would support their twisted view of how Earth was made, and would discard hard evidence for the opposite as fraud.
Wow, Jubly's stupid is like spike being driven into my brain. Because he sees a rock formation that goes against his "failed out of kindergarten" understanding of geology, that disproves all of established geology and evolution? RIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!
Nicely done. Thumbs up and favorited. But be prepared. A couple of years ago, I hit Ian very hard on the Columbia River Basalts. He posted two videos in response. including one claiming that the CRBG is composed of "hiddened pillow basalts."
@lawilson200 "Hiddend pillow basalts"? What the seven hells does he base that on? Oh, right, pulling it out of his ass. Qualifications just get in the way when you're a creationist.
@NorthForkFisherman - I did love his attempt. Of course, I view the CRBG has excellent evidence against a global type flood. First, there are over 125 individual flows, some reaching the Pacific Ocean. Flows in the Yakima and Richland Basins were so thick, they caused the earth to quite literally sink under the weight. Paleosols have been identified in several areas, including Picture Gorge. The last is a fun one to watch them squarm.
@lawilson200 I would really like to see one of them make the massive mistake of trying to explain away the Siberian/Deccan Traps and all that wonderful heat and chemicals released by those events.
@NorthForkFisherman It would be fun, but I am not so sure how many of them are aware of LIPs. Ian is about the only one I have encountered who is familiar with the CRBG. I do know of a couple of YEC articles on flood basalts by Oard and Coffin, but surprisingly, most YECs don't even read their own propaganda. Instead, the movement is largely based on cult of personalities and whether copyright restrictions prevent wider distribution. It would be nice to debate a YEC on Yellowstone Hot Spot.
@lawilson200 I'd settle for pushing him into it.. ;-) But to be serious, when you take a look at an intrusive feature, see all that contact metamorphism associated with it, and not one little bit of explosive outgassing that their damp sediment models requires, how can you not call bullshit on the flood story?
@NorthForkFisherman I am in total agreement with you. The problem is with the 99 percent of everyone else out their who never took a geology class. It is these people Ian and his ilk are targeting. It is a good thing there are a few out willing to tell the accurate side of the geollogical story.
@lawilson200 The only problem is that this ideology becomes part of their identity. And anything that challenges that is immediately considered to be a personal threat. It's a borderline mental illness that people like Juby, Hovind, and Hamm are all exploiting if not encouraging. If deity exists, I'm certain there's a special hell just for creatures (can't call them people) like that.
@NorthForkFisherman And when we point their shortcomings (like Hovind's tax conviction and current stint in a federal super-max prison) then you are accussed of engaging an ad hominen attack against their character. It is a perfect universe they construct. The problem, they are giving real Christians a bad name.
@lawilson200 But here's the part that really grinds gears: They don't consider anyone else that doesn't believe exactly as they do to be real Christians. I'll take "What's fricking ironic?" for $1000, Alex.
@NorthForkFisherman Good question. From the internet, perhaps the best is mantleplumes (just put an org afterwards) Plumes or Plums. This website provide peer review articles on a little debate over the source of the magma forming LIPs. It is a good place to start.
@lawilson200 There is a really good book that I also recommend. "Eruptions that Shook the World" by Clive Oppenheimer (2011). Oppenheimer is a volcanologist who teaches at Cambridge It is a good general book on volcanology. with an excellent section on large igneous provinces. I hope this helps.
Nevermind that. The important thing is you are putting your finger on the immensity of these two guys' willful ignorance. The concepts of plate tectonics and thrusting are so damn simple and easy to see when you look at the whole set of data - it means a lot of effort to twist them in a way that fits into Juby's scam. That's what they are: filthy liars and charlatans.
@orge121 I'm disappointed in you too :) One thing atheevos never seem to recognize is that snarky commentary in place of actual SCIENTIFIC REFUTATION does not sway those of us who originally came at the various issues of origins & creation v evolution objectively. We need for you to actually roll up your sleeves and get down to the business of helping us understand WHY Juby is wrong. Telling us he doesn't understand and that a book sucks just sounds like the sour grapes of the defeated.
