I remember watching this at home, as I hadn't started school when it was broadcast. The music brings a very warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling of being sat at home, all those years ago. Amazing what you can remember from such a young age, and yet I've not heard this for almost 40 years!
The Pie Chart music was "Guadalajara" by Leonard Salzedo (from Autumn Term 1964-until half Autumn Term 1973).I'm sure I will enjoy this clip of the BBC 1 Schools Pie Chart never up and beyond after Autumn Term 1973. This clip on Thursday 30th November 1972. In late October 1973 the BBC1 Colour Schools Diamonds was introduced in October 1973 with the music two different tunes are: Sara's Tune and A Tune for Lucy.
@Feisty 1967 - there WAS a colour version of this - when we got our first colour TV in 1973 there it was - but then it was soon replaced by the three blue diamonds on the black background.
Watch With Teacher featured a lot of the ITV schools tunes and only a couple of the ones used by the BBC - we could do with a CD collecting together all of the memorable tunes used on the BBC schools countdowns now, including this one, the woodblock/flute one and the twinkly organ pop one that succeeded this one.
Good grief! Couldn't tell you what the heck I was doing two days ago ..... but after what seems like several centuries , I knew this tune note for note!!! Scary and wonderful!
I'm sure this is what I saw on the telly at playgroup when I was 4, but for some reason I remember seeing it in colour. It's funny how your memory plays tricks on you.
i am puzzled: how come when the clock is on the screen the top part has the pic faults but the bit with BBC1 doesn't?

@busterabcat I knew I was right all along! Not being funny. I just have this vague memory of a colour pie chart being shown at Playgroup!
