D.I.D... Weren't these the same guys that did the brilliant Robocop 3 game? Judging by the instruments making up the music, the cell shaded 3D and the "Disk B" thing, I'm guessing it was the same engine too. ;)
@TheMon1002 Yes, same people, and quite probably the same engine. It isn't cell shaded though... just flat shaded polygons, which was pretty much all the systems of the time were capable of as far as 3D was concerned.
The game was really great, I finished it, being always astonished with graphic, adn great intro & scenes in-between. Also, what exist in nowadays productions, if not ripping from one another, and of course classic. Star Wars was also ripped off from few things, or even universal-Buddhist-like religious philosophy. It's normal, like in music, if not Bach, there wasn't be jazz, punk, finally even hip-hop. :) Amiga rules
Mek Quake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That takes me back to my ill spent youth reading far too many comics and sci fi novels haha what a retro trip you just gave me :). Didnt think much of the game though.
The intro on this game is fantastic. I saw this intro on another video on YT. It reminds me of the opening title sequence of the original (and best) Battlestar Galactica. I know little about the game itself though. So seeing this video was interesting.
@DLiberator78 Yeah, they've ripped off Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars wholesale, and then thrown in some Star Trek style ships just for good measure.
I actually prefer the modern Galactica... though the final series was a bit of a letdown.
@SteveBenway Lol, I still can't forgive them making my favourite character Starbuck a woman and then he trying to imitate Dirk Benedict even down to her smoking cigars. I just feel they should have gone all out and made her completely different. Although she is very hot indeed. ;-)
I quite liked this on PC although it was over all too quickly. There was a sequel called Inferno which was a really ambitious game with some truly epic randomly generated missions but it was pretty much ignored because it came out at the same time as Tie Fighter.
I can't get on with games were you're stuck trying to figure out what to do.There should always be some type of clue, like go north or some thing.Yes i do demand a compass if the instruction is to go north,my sense of direction is useless lol.
Wow! Thanks for this. I'm a Amiga 500 veteran and I'd some how forgotten all about this game. I used to love it. The intro was so cool! LOL Thanks for bringing the memories back.
it's fun to see a kind of "free roam" space craft shooter. this game seems to have more freedom as starfox on the snes used to have, but when it comes to speed and graphics, i'd perfere starfox :-D but that's just my taste.
I remember this getting a rave review in 'The One' magazine in Dec '91, before the game had been released. When it did come out, it scored rather poorly with other magazines. I seem to remember it being rather a little bit too easy.
@Stewie42 The biggest issue I have with the game is hat you spend a fair bot of time just wandering around not knowing what you're supposed to be doing.
It is fairly easy up to a point though. I always got stuck in the same place, coz there's this big ion cannon (another star wars reference) that you have to take out, and I could never get it in time.
Christ Stevie lad where you dig this one from???:)! boy i was waiting for this game ages since i had seen first time its demo with the intro haha and at that time in greek tv was the good old BSG hahaah and also star trek, well when i finally got my hand on this one was soo happy ,well the first mission was easy..later on was having some real killer ones!hahah i liked that game a lot!!thanks for brinnging my pilot days back mate and yes it is a BSG/SW mix with a BSG storyline!!Greets from Greece!
@ScrewAttackEurope The game is very much like Wing Commander in the way that it plays. I prefer how it looks though. I never saw the original Wing Commander on the PC, but on Amiga it's quite a pixellated mess.
Funny you took the words right out of my mouth Battlestar galactica with klingons birds of prey...lol I was looking for the USS Enterprise but didnt see it..lol I played this game and remember you could control it with the mouse very much like Robocop 3.
@yuriythebest I was playing my bosses husband (he's from the UK) at a game of Street Fighter 2 at work and he beat me with a cheap move and I said, "Oh, you moppet!" He's looked over at me and said, "How do you know that phrase?" I said, "Sod off and get back to the game."
Steve, I think a fun "UK slang" video might be in order... I think that'd be a fun little Benway's World vid.

Still great though.

This game was ground breaking scope and graphics at the time.
It's a shame it was still full of bugs when it was released - anyone remember it was actually delayed for about a year?
A great concept with amazing graphics at the time - if only they had more time for playtesting and debugging.
I had it on my 500+, but yeah it runs better on an A1200.

@TheBlimp888 Maybe. It's the same developer, which may be something to do with it :)

What there was of Epic was quite impressive. But you could finish the game in about half an hour.

Looks abit confusing but nontheless the frame rate is great and looks like it would be a fun distraction for awhile.

Think I remember this game. I think it was a answer to Wing Commander that was popular at the same time.
Ah, the beauty of vector graphics. Who need's stinkin' textures!

epic is really great! for all the amiga 1200 and above owners: don't use the SLOW WHDLoad version of this, try to get it to run from original disks
