  • One of the best songs that I ever heard . Nico & Velvet are really special...

  • One of my favorite songs of all time of course. Timeless!

  • zniewala

  • i love nico.. such a great artist!

  • anyone know when and where this was recorded?

  • @infinitefathom The title is misleading, this isn't the Velvet Underground, but former members Lou Reed, John Cale with Nico in 1972, I think this is in Bataclan.

  • This will never be bettered by anyone. A classic.

  • wish he finger picked the song...

  • Wow, that sounds perfect.

  • I've got the chills

  • We're an independent label trying to make it in this game and the best way to do that is by being more known on youtube. One of the ways we stand out is we help unsigned artists get more fans by uploading their songs for a new fan base

You can change our future with one simple click.

Please thumbs up so other people can see this and check out our channel and comment with feedback if you like, also if you think we could improve.

If you like check the other artists we have over 100 vids up!

    Cheers!

  • I♥Nico! :)

  • 64 people are justin bieber fans

  • Lovely, I wish I could communicate how this motivated me, back then.

  • 2:07 - too damn late Nico :p

  • @thesinner922 lol, she looks she's so far way

  • @ledzeppize *far away :P

  • date? band members?

  • her voice makes me thirsty...don know why..

  • And i guess that i just dont know

  • fantastic

  • @tjw3999 No it didn't maybe you're too young to realize it's one of the best bands in the 60's. Go back to your justin beiber and jonas brothers loser.

  • @tjw3999 Someone with so many Grateful Dead clips on his channel should probably steer clear of generalizations about how a band "sucks".

  • @tjw3999 Well, where I come from 'things' that suck are good

  • just great

  • i created account just to comment in this video..pheew!! and its not easy to find a username..haha

by d way... i love this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i cant sleep at night without hearing this..and i dont know why..thats all..bye

  • Who the hell is Justin Beiber?

  • @theoffdutyninja21 She's pretty horrible.

  • Beautiful song and beautifully sung

  • One of the few voices of women that I love. Lana del Rey and Regina Spektor are the other two I can think of right now.

  • O.o

  • it's so sweet when she misses the last line and Lou hurries to make things up for her. just amazing!

  • This is so great.

  • Compared to the amazing Studio Version, this is like karaoke. It's ok, but it's nowhere near as good as the studio recording.

  • I love this

  • Jim Morrison actually fucked her

  • Edie Edie Edie!!!!!!!

  • quanto eri bella Nico........

  • she is indeed a femme fatale.

  • I tend to agree she does come in late. Yes, I saw the look as well. The is the beauty of live concerts or performances though.

  • Haha.. when she gave him the look....

  • @Berus 7777 I think Nico is late at 2:05, Lou plays right ... but that's even better ... an amazing version. Thank U Velv.

  • the look she gives him at about 2:10 cracked me up

  • Guitarist screws up and adds an extra beat just after 2:05, which messes up Nico's cue. You can see her give him a reproachful look just afterward. Still a great performance.

  • She hardened her tone to silence the audience?

  • It's true

  • Adoro! música eterna.

  • I know that Nico would live for about another 15 years after this, and that she did a lot more musical work in that time, but there's still something that feels oddly "final" about this performance. Like she's saying goodbye.

  • @MushroomKingdom919 you completely imagine this because you are making a choice between Nintendo and you hair, because it will fall out if you live in a dream and your body knows it.

  • Edith Minturn Sedgwick

  • ITS NOT PERFECT BUT A SOUL SINGING FROM THE HEART .IF ANYONE DOESNT REALISE THIS ITS OK.

  • The question to why there is deadpan and unexcited background vocals is summed up in one sentence. All songs written by Lou Reed.

"But I want to sound like Bawb Dy-LAWN!" - Nico.

  • Did anyone notice how bad this is?...i'm just sayin'

  • @kennethj1956 No such thing as bad music or songs in my opinion, It's just not the sound you're looking for.

  • @countchunkula what if i were to shit in your ears?

  • @kennethj1956 Are you joking me? What would bring you here if you didn't like this band? It's not like they're some popular band that's attracting all kinds of attention. The Velvet Underground are for the people that seek out great music. And this is DEFINITELY a great song.

  • @cKunke2..... I should keep my observations to myself.

Why am i here? Edie is family.

  • @kennethj1956 I just don't understand how you even got here if you think this is such a bad song. I think it's amazing, as does almost everyone that listens to the Velvet Underground

  • @cKunke2 Clicking through.... Blondie to Andy to Edie& Velvet underground: Or Blondie , Punk, Velvet underground; It's not hard. I remember the studio version of this song I like much better, I don't care for this live version.

I don't think Nico is a very ....nevermind.

  • @kennethj1956 good looking? lol.

  • @cKunke2 Ha ha...good one! .... (You made me spew coffee, man)

  • @kennethj1956 Your comment sucks. I'm just sayin' hahaha

  • @bartje11 Yeah, I agree; we all have opinions.

  • After all these years of listening to the Beatles this is the first time I'm hearing this. This is definitely one of my favorite Beatles songs now.

  • @mrsqueeky1000 This isn't a Beatles song. It was written by Lou Reed.

  • i have to say i love this tune

  • There is no voice as atmospheric and haunting as Nico's

Paired with The Velvet Underground is just...you knew those two wonderful worlds couldn't last long together.

Apart they are still phenomonal, but together it's just heaven.

  • What this kind of woman does to your heart is hard to deal with.

Why can't I stop thinking about you? Driving me insane.

  • I'm going to associate #37 as a negative number now

  • I like the look he gives her at 0:07 lol rock on

  • i teared watching this. the world needs Nico back. the world needs the whole VU back.

  • I can't understand people who hate Nico. Her voice broke barriers in the way Bob Dylan's "ugly voice" did. She is also the mother of gothrock with The Marble Index album. She changed the history of rock. She is such an inspiration to me.

  • when was this recorded?

  • they messed it up a couple of times, but thats what makes this video even better :D ah, the good old days that i never known...

  • @boiledhippo1:

Nothing is messed here, what do you miss here......your "ideal " of hearing something ?

  • @boiledhippo1 that's true, and I know which part of the video you're talking about. Allow me to explain - a lot of bands, especially back in the 60's and 70's, did "lyric-lagging" back then. It was an artistic device that musicians purposely used so that their live show would sound different than when it was recorded in the studio. The reason for this is so that the listener would know that it's just them playing instead of lip-synching, which many popular acts did back then and still do today.

  • people love this song in my country

  • Nico also is a femme fatale.

  • Everybody loves a clon.

  • @Jhensy2012 Be nice! She was Scandanavian! LOL!

  • is this the 1972 performance at le bataclan (paris)?

  • stop with the fucking dislikes already!

  • @Zero5twelve987

    proud?

  • Nico's singing is actually better in this live version than the studio one. Beautiful.

  • When the video be taken? which years?

  • Nico broke my heart in two.

  • love her! she's the voice of new york 1970's

  • nice accent :)

  • WHAT DID THE COMPANY WITH GOOD MUSIC??

  • you all have much to learn

  • Edith Minturn Sedgwick.

  • This will live forever.

  • She's amazing

  • thats amazing

  • Brilliant. What a great post. Forgot this song, now playing it again. Beautiful.

  • Nico ...i love you..

  • Nico was so beautiful.

  • Amazing, but they're NON the Velvet Uderground.

  • The best part is that she´s got her arms crossed, so it seems kind of modest. But it´s so beautiful.

  • Não me canso de ouvi-la!!!

  • The Velvet Underground....the rest of the world is still trying to catch up !!!!

  • german girl nico!! I am so proud!

  • The way she reaches in for the mic crossing her arms... Her whole face throughtout the video... Everytime I watch this I think how much this song must mean to her, having been raped and all. It's as if she fucking FEELS the entire thing while she's singing.

  • What a clon

  • Comment removed

  • look how pretty

  • why Nico crossed her arms?

  • me encanta!!

  • Comment removed

  • Nico was and is an amazing artist. She actually came here and played in new zealand-unreal. Why did she look so full of angst and misery? She was raped at 15, maybe that could be part of it, but nothing seems to shut the critics mouths

  • I lived in Ibiza very near to the place where Nico had that bicycle accident,..on the sunday morning of July 18 1988...

  • Comment removed

  • @1imesub: Pretty sure Lou Reed played it right, but she just didn't come in at the right time.

  • @johnsonnavenr You may be right. Damn good footage, performance and sound quality regardless. Sounds just like the studio version; about as close to a perfect match as you can get, live.

  • Aloe Blacc did an excellent rendition of this...and its usually hard to come lose to the original!

  • There was something there when thet was recorded which has gone forever.

    Wonderful.

  • little known fact: nico is a vampire who currently uses the name uma thurman

  • @oakhand Little known fact Uma Thurman had a small part in Ciao Manhattan

  • @LBMAAS i think youre thinking of uma thurmans mom? i dont think uma thurman was in the movie but her mother was

  • @Titashairtips I meant that the song written about Edie Sedgwick

  • @oakhand So vampires exist then?? Well that explains why Capitalism has been successful for so many years; and on a more serious note, are you for real?

  • @leadleader2023 Haha Capitalism hasn't been successful . It has been existent .

  • @az0r22 I think Capitalism has been very successful, it is perhaps the most successful religion ever created, supposedly based on nature, but really, who are we fooling? The people who look deeper will quickly find out that Capitalism is a fraud mostly based on false concepts.

  • @oakhand made me laugh

  • @oakhand An anagram for Uma Thurman: Mama Unhurt.

  • lol there's a Viet guy on the credits

  • its funny to see that Lou is the only one to keep in time, Nico has a great voice but she cannot count herself into beat. A great voice no doubt, the rest of the Velvet Underground is needed, clearly! :P

  • The real deal....sweeeeet.

  • BEAUTIFULL!!

  • the Andy WArhol´s creation.

    Excellent, amazing.....

  • that looks she gives to Lou at 2:12 and when he returns it at 2:15. straight up made me cry.

  • @JsRf13 She came in late on the chorus and got a little stunned (and recovered nicely). Couldn't tell if her look was playful or like she was mad at Lou for some reason. Still a great shot, though!

  • @curtislemay it looks like they shared a beautiful moment together

  • @JsRf13 why? are you nuts or something?

  • @PercolatorFish yeah

  • man this bitch is scary

  • Nico looks like David Bowie..

  • @MreenalMams david bowie looks like nico

  • r.i.p nico. and thanks for each good song!

  • Man I miss the music so fucking much.I really am a sorry~ass throwback who can*t even get high anymore without bringing it all down around me.I still have a print of Andy*s which just gets me sad,go figure ?

  • Loved her..RIP. dreams

  • Amo cuando Nico entra tarde y lo mira a lou con una cara hermosa como diciendo, upssss. la amo!

  • I was in the crowd. It was 1972, recorded live for the first "pop show' on a French TV show called POP 2 - check out the credits.

  • damn, britney spears is bitch.

  • It should say Nico & the velvet underground , not the other way around

  • @SeniorSaucy The name of the album this is off of is "The Velvet Underground & Nico".

  • I absolutely love Nico. She had a such a distinct and different sound. So sad she died :(

  • Oh and there are probably a couple of million guys who would give the nut on the left to get a look from her the way Lou did at the end of the clip.

  • Hilarious. They start clapping and the kraut gives em a look and they stfu.

  • I've read or heard somewhere that this song is about Edie Sedgwick. Is it true?

  • @sinisab89 I read that too, but then I saw this documentary about the VU reunion in Europe, and in an interview I'm pretty sure Lou Reed says that Andy Warhol told him to compose it about Nico. Let me see if I can find it here.

  • @TheGenYgirl Please reply if you find it. I'd really like to know.

  • @TheGenYgirl No. The song is about Edie Sedgwick. How many times must this be debated? Lou said so himself many times over. Just listen to 1969: The Velvet Underground Live.

  • @MowgliX Ok yea I believe you. I don't really care though either way. It's my least favorite song of theirs...

  • @TheGenYgirl OK, so you don't care either way. I get that. Still, you took the effort to write two posts about it.

  • @TheGenYgirl Oh come on, let's not argue any more. I won't argue with anyone ever again, 'cause I'm tired of it. We all love Nico and the Velvets. We all love Edie too. That's what matters.
