did you perform all of the woodwind instruments in this track? if so, this is absolutely incredible... it sounds too nuanced to be done by even the best sample libraries like VSL... did you layer it on top of a track from the game without the whistle part on it, then layer your recording on top? do you have a crappy mic? you're invited to come to my studio and record with my equipment any time you want, if you live in south NJ
@evesira Wow, thank you very much!! Yes, I did record all of the winds separately (oboe, EH, whistles, ocarina) on my little mic, threw the wav. files into Sonar, and then played all the synth stuff (strings, piano, harp, misc) underneath them on my keyboard. A little primitive, but it's all I can do. I'm envious that you have a studio... I'd take up your offer if I were in the state!
@fieldofreeds man that's really impressive. i really want to hear more uploads from you. if you are ever in the area, or wanted to travel, seriously let me know. also, my "studio" is a modest one, in my apartment, with sound panels that i made, cheap but excellent condenser mics, and some mid range monitors. music equipment today is so much cheaper than it used to be, and with a lot of research, you can get all the best stuff for a studio for not that much
@evesira Thanks, I really appreciate it! I'll definitely upload more random tracks once I pick some, and I hope you like them. (If you have any thoughts for woodwind-based ones, I'm open!) I'm looking to find a good mic for recording, but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions?
@fieldofreeds the Behringer B-1 would be good for woodwinds, i think. it works well for vocals and pretty much everything in that loudness range. you'll need a 48v phantom power supply though, so you'd need an interface. you can pm me and we can discuss this type of stuff if you have any questions
Have you thought about making a video of you playing the instruments? People are usually really interested in seeing how instruments can make such an amazing cover like your one!
@JordJames Thanks for listening! :) Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment to both film video and get a decent enough audio to mix with. Maybe someday!
This is my favorite performance of this piece. I like your instrumentation, it is a nice change of pace from the more obvious choices for Zelda music, like the solo ocarina or piano.
While I liked the addition of the Song of Time at the end, I think playing the entire theme through was a bit clunky. Ending on the note at 2:24 might have worked better.
With my pedantry aside, your playing was excellent and I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
@PianoOnWheels Wow, thank you!! I see what you mean about the ending - especially as it throws off the tonal center - admittedly my thought process was less creative and more along the lines of "I don't want to just fade out - wait a minute, this reminds me of something!", but I'll definitely keep the thought in mind. I hope you like what you hear later on, thanks so much.
Beautiful rendition of Fi's theme. Every note had heart put into it, and I nearly cried by the end. Just, wow. Reeds are my some of my favorite instruments, so this piece really is dear to my heart. Keep up the fantastic work!
