Uh, I agree with you, but who's talking about ending the diamond industry? That would just make it worse- further raise profits and increase the incentive to kill/torture while removing any remaining recourse of the victimes- just like with the drug war.

I agree trade is the best way to end violence and raise standards of living, but part of that is consumer boycots. Its a free market, I can refuse to prop up the prices of stones if I feel like it, and they can sell them if they do. Simple.

Just curious, how come you don't like this video? It's beautifully made, and the perfect irony for the petty desire for a diamond ring to represent love and commitment in a marriage and the fact that many of these diamonds cost someone/ many people their lives. Please find out more about Cecil Rhodes, DeBeers, and the general modus operandi and train of thought during the massive European expansion into Africa in the 19th century. You should begin with the King Leopold II of Belgium and the rape of the Congo. Diamonds are only a part of the African tragedy.

I actually just recently saw the movie and I'm surprised they would use this clip to advertise diamonds. The movie is about conflict-diamonds and how there's civil war in Africa (actually occuring today) where rebels take children (as well as adults) from their homes to fight and search for diamonds.
