@IBMaccMartelli It's not our responsibility to feed them. Are you telling us that Africans are dysfunctional, inferior subhumans who can't survive without us giving them free shit? If Africans couldn't find food on their own, the human race wouldn't have survived long enough to spread from Africa tens of thousands of years ago. Europeans managed to build a thriving society two thousand years ago. Why can't the Africans? Maybe if we stop giving them aid, they'll finally take the initiative.

debeers: fueling rape, murder, genocide, and terrorism so you can buy diamonds at artificially inflated prices!
Oh well, it makes me more of a man to buy a big diamond for my fiancee. If a few people haven't died so that I can buy that rock in a priim and proper store, it just doesn't mean as much.
i dont know how true this is but im sure it has some weight. i heard that the only diamonds that are certified to be anything but blood diamonds have laser imprinted polar bears on them and made by the distinctive company with that trademark.
Obviously you do not know,much... there was national revolution in 90 in angola, which was sponsored by ukraine and russia`s jobless military, who been trading with weapons for diamonds, as both sides did not have means to survive.. de beers as a company has parnership with countries on diamond labor. everyone is paid well. south africa as a country, with its poverty isuues is only gainig.. educate yourself first before attacking without means or knowledge.!
the diamonds are funding civl wars ethnic cleansing, genocide, murder and civil war, what difference doese it make to the people in this situation what the GDP is?
Uh, I agree with you, but who's talking about ending the diamond industry? That would just make it worse- further raise profits and increase the incentive to kill/torture while removing any remaining recourse of the victimes- just like with the drug war.
I agree trade is the best way to end violence and raise standards of living, but part of that is consumer boycots. Its a free market, I can refuse to prop up the prices of stones if I feel like it, and they can sell them if they do. Simple.
they may employ slaves or even pay people to do their work, but think about it for a moment. does that make them good? if thats all that makes a company good, then so is raytheon. they only make weapons which are responsible for exploding people into chunks. alot of corporations are psychopathic in nature. look at the corporation on youtube. aside from that if this company is responsible for creating false scarcity they are just as deplorable as the petroleum companies.
Don't beleive everything you see or read LOL Debeers Canada is a great company.Snap Lake and Victor Mines are truly a great acheavment for DeBeers.Thousands of people including natives have benifited bigtime from DeBeers coming into their territories. As for DeBeers going bankrupt???... when hell freezes over maybe.
I want my minute and fifteen seconds of my life back for seeing this shitty video. And whoever made this shitty video needs to start thinking about how wasting time in life making shitty videos makes God very very very very verrrrrrrry upset.
Just curious, how come you don't like this video? It's beautifully made, and the perfect irony for the petty desire for a diamond ring to represent love and commitment in a marriage and the fact that many of these diamonds cost someone/ many people their lives. People don't think about the origins of these rocks when they're out buying them, but to see it blatantly in your face in this video, well, it kinda makes you think about how ridiculous it is to ignore what's going on with blood diamonds
this video shows nothing but irony. how the debeers corp. bought diamonds off of smugglers who bought those from the Revolutionary United Front. Think about the real point of this thing. watch the movie. this video doesnt really make sence
De Beers has so many diamonds... I'll bet that if they released ALL the millions of diamonds theyre holding in vaults, the rest of the worlds diamonds would be worth pennies.
This clip has very little to do with my statements, and hollywoodian dramatizations were not used as an introduction to modern African history, even though they may hold some truth. Please find out more about Cecil Rhodes, DeBeers, and the general modus operandi and train of thought during the massive European expansion into Africa in the 19th century. You should begin with the King Leopold II of Belgium and the rape of the Congo. Diamonds are only a part of the African tragedy.
Perhaps La Speilberg will make a movie about King Leopold. Then we'll have a glossy history lesson that people might watch...and we can all feel guilty together.

I actually just recently saw the movie and I'm surprised they would use this clip to advertise diamonds. The movie is about conflict-diamonds and how there's civil war in Africa (actually occuring today) where rebels take children (as well as adults) from their homes to fight and search for diamonds. I get what mamasita is saying. Such a contradiction.

Put a stop to the diamond industry, great idea, further reduce the GDP of a country by ELIMINATING their most profitable industry, brilliant!
What a novel way to help out the impoverished, by removing their ONE way to earn a living.
Instead of this moronic idea, HOW ABOUT DEMANDING THAT THE CORRUPT, THIEVING GOVERNMENTS OF AFRICA INSTITURE FAIR LABOR LAWS???
Morons.

Aside from their despicable acts in Africa, De Beers' advertising is twofold reprehensible in its purposes:
1) Persuade men to believe that women are shallow and materialistic, and
2) Persuade women to prove such men right.
