@lostmic its not done in maya, its done in post using whater program you use to composite the 3d and 2d together for instance i used after effects and masked the lights and trees.

Would you happen to know a place that would show me how to do the masking like you did here in your awesome film? Better yet perhaps your guide lines for learning this craft. Thanks Bud
@lostmic somepeople forget that u not only use 3d software.. maya is a great tool I thing the best tool for movie effects but.. for composting 3d and 2d u need a composting program so u only build a cgi object and combine those with a composting program like Nuke or flame or inferno or AE.
Nice, I wonder if you can help me... once I imported the MM file to Maya.. how can you make the camera imported & the object (in a layer).. not only visible but to make the object tracked and be able to use the select tool while watching the video background. I know that this has to do with layers but few people explain this,, they just say import the video to maya and thats it.
Done, thanks. I was not looking through the imported camera. But now, when I import an object and select it, the image plane is deselected & viceversa. Im trying to move around, animate the object while having the image plane background. The other views (side, top, etc) don't seem to work, they are all in blank

It is called a track Matte if you go too Video Copilot.net Andrew Kramer teaches that in his Tutorials.

well, in order to make the video appear you have to make the video into an image sequence then use that as the image plane
