@fuckamericanidiot So what do you think is good, then we can judge whether your comment has any merit at all? And why do you apologise for saying it's cheesy, it's not like anyone here is going to ask your point of view before they put some music on. This music was made during an era when many people made up their own mind about what they liked
@chrisnoaro1 but why do you need to judge my comment? you already made a good point by saying that i shouldn't be apologising because people don't give a toss what i think, by judging it you completely cancel out the point you made
@fuckamericanidiot I don't think so necesarily, even if you said you loved all my other favourite bands depeche mode, chris & cosey, cabaret voltaire, whatever but hated ultravox or thought they were 'cheesy', it wouldn't make me any less secure in liking Ultravox myself. At the same time I can't help being a little curious in who you rate, following your original comment. Cheers, and check out some more Ultravox along the way!
@chrisnoaro1 all right fair enough, well i came across this because i like SOME of the old ultravox stuff and i really like vienna, umm i like the strokes, the hives, devo, sabbath, green day, joy division, eagles of death metal, queens of the stone age, gary numan/tubeway army, police, thought i really liked omd (not so sure now) aaand i can't think of anymore right now, so a mixture really
@fuckamericanidiot Thanks for your honesty, I guess my original comment was pretty defensive stemming from a passion for Ultravox's work. Re your likes I'm a huge fan of Devo, JoyDiv, Numan, OMD. I like some GreenDay. Some people criticise Ure's stage image but I view it as highly idiosyncratic, and just fun really - there's some humour people don't get. Not sure what your OMD preferences are, I love '79-'84, got a bit commercial after that - check out '88 Seconds In Greensboro'. Cheers!
I was lucky enough to see the Quartet concert live at SDSU. One on my favorite Uvox songs containing one of my all time favorite lyrical line " I hate it all but there most be more to hate than this ". Sure hope they make to the US this fall.
I went to that concert too. It took place in the Montezuma Hall, if I remember well. At one point MIdge Ure said: This is your last chance to dance! I saw Peter Gabriel at SDSU (the concert was moved to a sunday, because of rain) and King Crimson, also at SDSU. Great memories, great music!
This brings back a memory of walking in Ottawa alone as a stranger listening to a Walkman tape thinking of the world in the eyes of UVOX and the future.
As an awkward misfit teen, I remember spending a lot of time alone in a field, turning hay to dry it out on my grandad's farm one summer and listening to this on my sister's Walkman. It so filled my brain and listening to it again, I find it laden with meaning. Ultravox were something else.
Great band Ultravox ,everything gels on this ,the bass is raw ,the drums are bank on ,midge is cranking it up and the keys/synth is wicked wicked wicked screeching ................wey ta go boys
I listened to this on my old sony walkman walking the moors or North Wales aged 14, so fucking cool, I feels as young as I did then, 20 plus years ago. I have aged but the music has not.
I didn't remember this track, I like it very much...Moustache I remember very well, so damned hot :))))

I'm going to see them at Newcastle City Hall in four days time. Really looking foreward to it.
Just one question, if this is a live recording, who is singing at the end. It obviously isn't Midge, but it sounds like him.
Dyynamo 2 years ago
That voice at the end does sound very much like Midge ... it must be one of 'The Messengers' (Danny Mitchell and Colin King) who can be seen at 1:37.
