I think that you are right in some sense, but you have to realize that women in Syria have it a lot better than women in Iran. Me being Iranian and Syrian and having many family members that lived adult lives in both Damascus and Teheran, 9 out of 10 of them say that being a woman and living freely in Syria is much easier than in Iran. They have gotten a lot farther and more respect in Syria then in Iran. You cant say what you said without stating that there is a cosmopolitan subculture in Syria
