I had the same flight and i must say its the best what you can get, nice people, dellicius food and not to mantion the resort or islands I had never saw such a beautiful place like the maldives, its realy breath taking. very clean and the waters its just amazing cant tell it in words. So May god proteced the maldives from the tsunami and fading away of the sea level, so we can enjoy this peace of the world with the most homble people i ever met. Once again may Allah take all of you malivians.

Just got back from the Maldives on friday (23rd April) I had an extra 5 days there because of the volcano ash! I was on a Sri Lankan A340 there, but a specially laid on A330 Sri Lankan coming home! Its amazing there!

I have heard that flying from the UK to Male isn't easy because you either have to fly with Monarch from London Gatwick who are not the best long haul airline or change a Dubai with Emirates.

yeah the runways is really long, and even if it were short pilots can manage to take off by holding the breaks while applying full power to the engines, once the engines are at full power the pilots will release the breaks and the plane will go faster, then the flaps will be applied slowly. thats a short runway take off.
