yea i agree on that...its something that i cant forget.... it flooded soo fast in such a short time, and 2 years CR is still under construction, rumor has it, its going to happen again this year 2010
its not about the song its about the destruction you fucking dumbass! duh! JESUS CHRIST! you people only think about yourselves! and logan idc if its you!
Showed this to co-workers here in Illinois along with pictures and other videos. Being from Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, I provided an insite that opened minds of people who do not, could not comprehend. Still, little could be done. This economy really makes it hard to do much to help. Loves to all directly affected.
The flooding would HAVE reached ILLINOIS no matter what the National Guard did. They ARE needed still in Iraq, as well. How STUPID are YOU! Learn about Hydro Dynamics, and leave the military matters to those who know a thing or two.
I dont know hydro dynamics. But they need hundreds of tained people to fill sandbags. (I would but i couldnt help them being one person, the National Guard specialises in that) Also look at the California fires that the Guard would of put out weeks ago.
oh no my hole community help fill bags !we dont need hundreds of trained people we need a loving community wichwe already have plus why would u need trained people to fill bags my brother is only 15 and he help> he was one of them and went to help peopel claen there house
The water in Czech village was over 8 feet deep, so I'm sure they have damage. My best advise is to try calling them. They may be having calls forwarded. Good luck
Jeep nd Harleys don't float.... $10,000 worth of computer shit sinks too. Thankfully the insurance company that I pay SO much money to can't help either!
I currently live just off campus of Kirkwood Community College and I am just glad I got out on thursday night before the shit really hit the fan. I had to come back to my moms house so i could see a doctor. I found out I have pneumonia and if I hadn't gotten out when I did I probably would have to be hospitalized now. Its just scary to think that if I were home not only would I be deathly sick but I wouldn't have a way to get treatment and no water.
wow glad i moved to oregan hope fam amd friends r ok uncle lives down in time check park area was trying to sell house guess thats out so soory to e1 for their losses
I used to live in the Windsor Apartments on Ellis Blvd and just moved out about a year ago. I know I'm lucky to live on higher ground in North Liberty, but we've all been helping out with sandbagging during our free time. So many people have lost so much. And for the record, it's not a man-made flood. We had record snowfalls and rain this past winter/spring, so it's not exactly a mystery how this happened. We've known it would be likely to happen for months.
My thoughts go out to all those affected by the flood. Don't put the blame on those affected. Just about ALL cities in the mid-west are along major rivers. Mother nature's major rains combined with thousands of square miles of tile drained farmland equal city flooding!
Unless we turn back the clock and have vast amounts prairie fields and/or non-tile drained farmland to flood upstream, our mid-west cities will continue to suffer severe flooding.
I love this video and the music that goes with it. Our community is seriously SO tightknit and has been doing everything we can to show support and help people who have lost their homes, belongings, cars and other stuff but they have NOT lost their faith in our city and surrounding areas. We will over come this with the help and support of everyone!
A couple of these flood '08 slide shows have terrible music scores.
In all seriousness, I grew up in CR, and hope that we can turn this around. I was getting ready to go over there and volunteer and bring some stuff, but told there were too many volunteers an that I should just send money to the Red Cross. God Bless Iowa
I'm from the prairies in canada; never seen this before, but have heard it's not uncommon in iowa, so what's up with the terrain? lots of rain or just low lying....just wondering....you guys more prone to floods?
I cannot imagine.....I am so sorry....the only thing that really happens where we live is the bitter cold in winter and I remember a tornado came through our city in 1979....we have been blessed with good weather. Again I am so sorry; I will pray for you.
One hundred years ago Iowa was only prairie grasses. The land, streams, lakes have been changed so much that the water has no way of being slowed down. Nothing soaks up the water on its routes. Our terrain is very hilly but so much of it is in farmland and small cities. It is so important to preserve the natural ways the land has of protecting itself.
its moslty street and sidewalk so the ground cant suck it up so we have to wait on evapuation! im telling ya'll mothernauters mad at us all! shes just trying to warn us!
yesterday and today i went sandbagging in a couple small towns that live on the skunk river and another river in iowa and one of them broke today so now that area is flooded and the one i went to today if it doesnt get finished fast enough it will break too
I've been sandbagging, but you have to plan sandbagging and do it right, otherwise it's of no use, the water just pours in from elsewhere, so are you guys somehow planning before bagging?
God bless all those going through this catastrophe. Good example of how to conduct (and obey) evacuation orders. And how refreshing it is not to have to bear witness to looters and shooters for whom the rest of the country is expected to cough up money to rescue. I live in Houston and the Katrina thugs, 50,000 of them, who relocated here are making my city a ****-****! Iowans be proud! I have heard no complaints from Omaha.
@capsource1 Welcome displaced Americans, welcome poor Mexicans , hello refugees of war, come on in victims of torture and political upheaval, settle in victims of famine..
makes me cry im in korea and cant get home to help. thank God the casualty's are minimal. I cant believe this. hasnt happened like this in almost a hundred years...
The good folks of CR were smart enough to leave their houses when authorities told them to...you don't see anyone on their roofs screaming "Help me Government!" Just an observation.
Quit it with the government conspiracy B.S. I live here. You want to blame someone? Blame the population of this planet for wasting resources and polluting the atmosphere, creating the global climate change causing this weather pattern. People here are still wasting water, even after they've been told not to. We say Iowans are so good because we help sandbag and offer up our homes and give food, then act selfish because we can't stand the idea of not taking a shower for a few days. Hypocrites.
A clip chosen, edited and then placed out of context to fit your definition of reality. It's so much easier to blame the big boogey man than to take personal responsibility, or hey, maybe just admit that it's nobody's fault, period. Maybe it's just the cyclic nature of the planet's atmospheric conditions and we don't have record of it because it happened too long ago. You don't need someone to blame: you need someone to justify your persecution complex. We need to stop pointing fingers and help.
this seems to happen every couple of years, you would think people would stop investing in flood plane properties, but i guess they must have flood insurance.
This hits home for me. I moved to CR when I was 14. I moved just 5 years ago. I still have friends there and in Johnson County. I can't help but, feel sick about all of the damage that the Cedar has unleashed on the community as well as other communities. Is there any information of agencies that need assistance?
Thanks for the clear photos and the fine choice of song. This showed me more than a lot of TV news stories did, actually. Please post further updates, if possible.
Another great video and awesome choice of songs. Couldn't help but cry. Hard to believe the railroad bridge is gone. Thanks for posting this. Thanks for helping to document history.
From Cedar Rapids following the news from Teresopolis, Brazil. Anyone have any info on the Windsor Apartments around Ellis Blvd??? My parents were evacuated yesterday and I'm wondering if there's any news from there.
Just heard on the news that the water is up to the doorsteps of at least one apartment building on Windsor on the River - The Pavilion at Ellis Park has only the roof still above water. That's as of about 7:40 central time. Water is at 29 feet right now and expected to crest around 32 feet.
Sorry the pics are out of sequence, I crossed the 3rd Ave bridge, went upstream to time check park, then back downstream to 12th ave. Most of downtown is sandbagged, even as far as 5th st
When did you take these? I was down there a few days ago and in other areas of the city, and this morning again at about 11 am, and was on the 2nd ave bridge as they were closing the 3rd ave. I live in CR too
