  • Beautiful gymnast, I just don't like the way she bends her legs after every landing...

  • @pianistofbabylone I thought it really added a sense of precision to the routine...

  • "tiny gymnast, big reputation":)

  • anyone saying fan ye's small and too young and so....plz listen!!!!

now she's attending Beijing University and her height is 159cm and 104 pounds. and she still looks the same, maybe just some changes with her hair color and nails. she is dressing like a young girl, no difference from the other chinese girls.

so plz...dont judge someone's age simply by their appearence.

  • she was so perfect but she is not 16

  • Ah, Fan Ye, your Yang Bo is almost as amazing as the originator's.

  • she is awesome....wawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.................... brilliant ..i have ever seen sothing like this wawww only this waw

  • this is as lovely as li ya's routine

  • This routine still has a start value of 5.9 in the present Code of Points 2010, it shows how great she is! :)

  • absolutely beautiful!! her sheep jump was gorgeous!!

  • her armpits are gross

  • @koobiachiic i think it's Kathy Johnson

  • 9.812!!

  • wish to see her Yang Bo at side angle. It will be even more beautiful than front angle!

By the way the tuck jump with full turn, even it is simple compare to Yang Bo or switch leap to ring, she did it perfectly and beautifully too.

Can;t stop coming back to view this again. lol

  • I think the only deduction the judges thought were from the dismount. Not the landing but the separated knees (cowboying). Many gymnast do it to get a faster rotation. I think that was the only form break, everything else was perfect :)

  • Her sheep jump is so perfect!!!

  • perfect

  • In. Love. With. This.

  • GREAT sheep jump!! :)

  • this routine is totally deserving of it's score. and the people saying that it was under scored should know that this is the highest scoring routine of that quad. besides remember that this is under the old system and not all routines started from a ten. (does anyone know her start value?)

  • @mistybabe5489 ; I'm sure it's deserving of the score. I just wish I knew where they deducted. To me - a humble, admitted amateur - I would like to know the deductions just to understand. :)

Also -- stop the video at 2:00 and you'll see the start value (SV) was 10.00.

  • @DC205504 well i'm not a judge but IMO the only flaw i saw was at 0:38, she took an extra step to land that switch ring leap. so i'd give her a 9.9.

plus her score was 9.812 (back then they had dedecutions in .025, today only in 0.1) so that means one of the judges could have given her a perfect ten and the 3 others that were averaged could have given a lower score that would average out to the score she got.

    ex. 10+9.8+9.75+9.7 = 39.25/4 = 9.8125

    hope this helps

  • This routine was something special! The Yang Bo jump at 1:05 is probably the smoothest I've seen, as is the entire exercise. It's incredible. I wish I understood judging better - where the heck can they find 0.2 - 0.25 worth of deductions in this routine. In my humble opinion - at its lowest, it's a 9.90; it's worthy of a 10.

  • @DC205504 Yea, I'm not really sure where the deductions came from. It seemed like she had her legs together on the dismount...which is rare. No real balance checks or form breaks throughout the routine. I think her landing on the switch ring leap was fine...should have gotten a 10. Or at the very least a 9.9, like you said!

  • @koobiachiic Seriously? This is 2003. She would have been 13.

  • I always think this is underscored. I can't find a deduction.

  • Beautiful..

  • This routine in today's COP, yesterday's COP and tomorrow's COP deserves high scoring! It has everything that a beam routine should have and all elements executed well. This girl makes me happy to be a gymnastics fan because there is no doubt that this routine is absolutely amazing. Well deserved gold and gymnasts should take note, splits are supposed to have at least 180 degree leg separation.

  • LOL, a super E is definitely NOT a requirement to get a 10.0

  • Yes, there was a E level Skill, the Switch Jump into Ring, where at 0:36-0:38,

a truely qulified E level skill. That was Super ennough.

  • shame she fell in 2004 olympics. that was SO BEAUTIFUL.

    and she's SO SKINNY.

  • What happened in here ? Why people gave out thumb-downs for almost every comment ? What is wrong with russiangymfan's comment that needed to be thumb-down ? What kind of idiot does that ?

  • Ya, it seems like someone is drunk when giving the votes or that person has some grudge over something.

  • I wouldn't put it past her to vote herself down on purpose for attention. She does everything FDA said she does above.

The only sad and pathetic person is RussianSkating fan.

  • Probably because she posts under 15 different names and insults any gymnast that threatens Nastia as the queen of the sport for all time. You would know this because you are another one of her personalities.

Since she has been called out she now write's nice things about some of these gymnasts to throw off what she is doing but you know this because you are her.

  • You also go around under your 15 plus names thumbs upping every post about you so I think it is hilarious that you are pointing out what YOU YOURSELF do.lol

  • Stop even trying to be smarty pants, stupid yank. If I had done what you said I did, my second comment won't be with -5, will it ? And my account has more subs, favourites and comment posted than a lot of people including moron like you. How would anybody in the right mind think that this is a back-up account? Your account looks more like a fucking allies. If you don't have anything to say, bite your fucking tongue and get lost, prick.

  • Don't act tough with me.lol You are russianskating fan and your outburst proves it.

Your entire rant was so poorly written it made little sense. You need a fucking shrink.

  • So does everything you ever write, just get the fuck out of my sight. I am not gonna spend one more second on you pathetic fuck. I am who I am, not some other people. Go back to your cave, kiddo.

  • LMAO. You really need some help of the therapist kind.

  • wow! AMAZING

  • awesome

  • Woah...how old is she? She looks so young.

  • Obviously you missed skipped over the part where I wrote 'she could be older'. Maria Filatova and Yelena Davidova also looked very young in their day-and they were 19 and 20 respectively at the 1980 Olympics. I judge NO one-I said if you had read my comments correctly that she LOOKS 13-which she does. It does not follow that she WAS 13 so stop being such an idiot and jumping the gun when someone makes a remark you don't like.

  • LOL faeryquene!! I'm totally with you on that point!!

  • @faeryquene she doesn't look 13 she looks 10!!!

  • @faeryquene and filatova and daydova's ages weren't faked as well? Duhhhh. Age cheating was rampant in communist countries since it was a government run program and they could print whatever birth certificate they wanted for their athletes. Many ex-soviet and former romainan gymnasts admitted they were underage and now Dong Fangxiao admitted she was also underage when she competed in 2000. It stands to reason Fan ye was underage.

  • @soapygirl83 Filatova and Davidova unlike other former Soviets have never claimed their ages were changed. And in their day there was no age limit like today-14 and 15 year olds like Nadia and Filatova were at the time could compete at the Olympics in Montreal in 1976. Canada's Karen Kelsall did too and she was 13 years old at those Games.

  • @faeryquene

actually the age limit was you had to be 14 before the start of the games

Karen Kellsall's country requested a special allowance for her because she would turn 14 before the end of year, and it was accepted.

  • @bbhouk1 True-but she was allowed to compete and within the rules with the exception.

  • @faeryquene

yeah i know. just wanted to point that out

  • @faeryquene yeah except that when you say she looks thirteen, you're kinda implying that she 'might' be thirteen... just sayin...

  • This might be the most hit routine ever in a world final - from a gymnast who struggled with inconsistency her whole career. But how many consistent performers ever did something this perfect?

Her beam is like a 21st-century Olga Mostepanova.

  • i think kui's routine in 97 is more difficult than this, but execution of this routine is perfect, i would give it a 10

  • How about Shannon Miller, Daniela Silivas, Dina Kochetkova, Nadia Comaneci?

  • she is in the final and won the gold

  • When Chinese do beam, they just look different . They not only perform diffidult moves, they dance on the beam! Chinese show how a balance beam routine can be graceful and beautiful. We gymnastics fans should thank them for their efforts and great work. Russia and Ukraine have produced some beautiful beam workers as well. As a team, China is no doubt the best on this event.

  • What is considered her tumbling series?

  • there's a DCB

  • What does DCB mean?

  • her front aerial-> back tuck-> back handspring swingdown. It was a DCB combination in terms of their respecitve difficult values in COP

  • with a sleep jump, a Yang Bo and a switch ring, very competitive for the 09 new code.

  • what the hell is a sleep jump? u mean sheep jump?

  • ...sorry, 4 weeks ago, i got too excited.

  • Ye Fan's dance elements were far more difficult (switch ring, Yang Bo, sheep jump) and although I love Catalina's beam work, Ye Fan had better choreography, arm carriage and overall execution. Had she qualified for the beam final, she would have probably won gold with a routine like that!

  • I agree with you completely about her artistry being better than Cata's. Her execution of this routine is just breathtaking, but what I meant was that Cata's dismount was more difficult, but you are right about Ye having much more complex dance elements, which is why I said that Ye built up her difficulty with her leaps and jumps:)

  • I didn't disagree either; Cata had harder acrobatic elements (mostly Ds along with her super-E dismount) and easier dance skills whereas Ye Fan had harder dance elements (D&Es). I really don't understand why you've got so many thumbs down for merely pointing out a fact! ;-D

This said, I'd still give the edge to Ye Fan for being so stunningly gorgeous!

  • I won't give you any thumbs down!! This is your opinion and you have every right to express it!!

  • Comment removed

  • This deserved a ten. It's only because of the stupid scoring system that wouldn't give away tens after '92 that prevented her from getting what she deserved.

  • Was it possible to have 10 under this code of points?

  • I love to watch Chinese routines in slow motion. They pay such great attentions to details and they never stop seeking perfection.

  • Yes,I agree with you. Only do perfect routines can the Chinese girls get gold due to the judges are strict to them!

  • The American Cup is not an international competition, so the scores are often inflated. Just like the Nationals.

  • this is how the beam should be worked!

  • 10!

  • omg that should have been a 9.96!! (thats what i would have given it =]])

absolutly beautiful routine. i wish that gymnasts today would show this kind of artistry and flexibility!

  • okay, i say let the chinease keep dominating- they are the only team as a WHOLE that have kept up that old nadia style artistry that is barley shown today.

  • Would you call Carly Patterson a one-hit wonder too, then? Her only major individual title was the AA Olympic gold. Fan Ye's inconsistency doesn't take anything away from this routine (easily one of the greatest, if not the greatest ever). Just watch her routine from the 2005 Nationals, which was better considering she had a far more difficult dismount!

  • Why are Chinese often underscored? Is it because they don't have enough representation in FIG? Or is it because there are not many Chinese judges?

  • Yes, they're uderscored all the time. What a shame!

  • Gosh, compare Liukin's sheep jump with this video. It's shocking that Liukin was even in the final.

  • In the 03 beam final? Yeah, shocking. :)

  • How perfect, the perfect sheep jump.

  • I would give this 9.900.

  • Has there been any beam routine that's more beautiful than this one in recent times?

I've been watching it for four years and I just can't get tired of it.

  • love the korbut flip ..nice

  • So solid, gosh

Well, in the antique Code it could be a 10.0

I guess the judges didn't like Chinese, because it was near perfect, and deserved a 10.0

Comaneci's first 10.0 on UB wasn't with a completly perfect routine either.

  • The 2001-2005 made it impossible for any gymnast to score a 10.00, but this routine was as perfect as it gets. A perfect 10.00 hands down!

  • This is the best beam routine!!

  • The scores at American cups and Natiaonals for the USA do not count because Martha tells the judges to overscore gymnasts. Also the gym can pay to have higher scores.

  • pay to have higher scores are u serioius? wat do the coaches not have enough faith in their gymnasts?

  • i think that is the best routine y never see on beam, awesome and perfect

  • the deductions are that almost every connection is not directly made.

  • Yes, I see what you mean; there IS a very slight hesitation but her aerial walkover, back tuck, korbut flip looked perfectly connected to me. She also makes a slight adjustment with her feet after her punch front-sheep jump combination. But what a beautiful routine-her extension and amplitude on her leaps and jumps is just phenomenal!!

  • I'm not totally sure. I just read somewhere that it was the highest mark earned in international elite competition between 2001 and 2004 - perhaps that just means the Worlds & Olympics.

  • Its any World Cup, World Championships, or Olympic Games.

  • did she win

  • Yes she did. And it was the highest score obtained by a woman in a major international event during the 2001 - 2004 era.

  • The scores at Am cup are always a bit high for the american girls.

  • I don't really see any deductions either, but 9.812 was a huge score during the 2001-2004 period.

  • Yeah you would have to go over this routine with a fine tooth comb to find mistakes. Judges could have given her a ten.

  • she totally deserved it

  • I really really dont see any form deductions on her routine-she took a tiny shuffle in after her sheep jump, but surely thats not deductible? Every element and skill was PERFECTLY executed. Stunning.
