We already wiretap potential terrorists and always have and I would be shocked if Obama didn't continue to do this. What I was talking about was wiretapping people who are not terriorist in any way, shape, or form and they have already done this. It's illegal, unethical and should be stopped. BTW, it's not hard to get a warrant for a suspected terrorist anyway. And I believe that's a myth about MLK, jr. If anyone has GOOD evidence i'd love to hear it, but I haven't heard any yet.

I did read up on it, and looks like they did wiretap mlk but remember the times. It was the '60s and blacks were really second class citizens back then so any black person back then who was as outspoken as mlk was going to be under scruntiny and wiretapped. BTW, I was talking about jfk not rfk but it doesnt really matter. the govt tracks and wiretaps its enemies and in the '60s blacks were the enemies.

Um... hello?? The patriot act? being spied on? Involving ourselves with torture? Oh and all the valid information that we got from terrorists was gotten NOT through torture but through normal interrogation techniques. We only tortured people when we wanted to find a link between Al Quaida and Iraq which we knew wasn't there. What are your sources that we got legitimate information from waterboarding? Oh and by the way, even if we had, that doesn't justify it. A terrible defense!

Read 'The Dark Side'. Aided and abetted by the Office of Legal Counsel, Cheney efffectively neutered all judicial and legislative checks on his power, making things that had been previously illegal 'semi--legal'. For a member of the executive to do that is absolutely a breach of the rule of law.

All Presidents can break the law and most do. There is a glaring loophole in the Constitution in that the President interprets the law before the courts. It is a necessary loophole, most President only use it in emergencies. Cheney has abused it, I would hate to see a President I supported abuse power in a similar way, even if I agreed with him

My point was that people of "resolve" like Dick Cheney are self-serving and can only get results by trampling others' concerns. That's why they get results.
