Only when Joe beat Lacey and then Kessler he became too big for Hopkins and Jones to resist and with their age their reputations weren't so much at risk either. Joe overcame hand trouble, always found a way to win, would come on strongly. Deserves more credit, beat all the top fighters he could, many of whom beat others supposedly too good for Joe

I know people forget that Calzaghe is a PEER (generationally ) of Jones, and basically Hopkins (who improved with age). He's been champ since 1997, just a few years after Hopkins and Jones fought for a title, and had more title defenses, and nearly as many fights, except that unlike Jones, Joe was never knocked out cold, or like HOpkins, struggled with a guy like Antwon Echols.

I know people forget that Calzaghe is a PEER (generationally ) of Jones, and basically Hopkins (who improved with age). He's been champ since 1997, just a few years after Hopkins and Jones fought for a title, and had more title defenses, and nearly as many fights, except that unlike Jones, Joe was never knocked out cold, or like HOpkins, struggled with a guy like Antwon Echols.

On the rare occasions when yanks travelled to the UK to fight Calzaghe, they got beaten up and knocked out, mostly. Omar Sheika for example. A very good fighter in his own right, beaten silly for five rounds then mercifully stopped by the benevolent ref. Calzaghe fought anyone put in front of him and he ducked no one.

@Maxshard he's great in a sense that he ducks nobody (something calazaghe cant claim), gives it his all in all of his fights, and has a pretty good resume. beat a young undefeated pascal in a classic war, beat the young talented dirrell (even though it was a controversial decision), so on and so forth. imo, froch has alot more to write home about then calazaghe does.

I fucking despise Calzaghe haters. Hopkins, Jones et al were great fighters, but you think you saw the best of Calzaghe when he was 36 years old? He had a lot of power before his hands were messed up and he was a lot quicker with a higher work-rate. The only truth is, he fought Jones and Hopkins and beat them when he was an 'old man' himself. As for his 'slaps', if he is such a soft hitter, then why didn't any opponent, including present and former champions, just wade through them?
