Getting a private teacher is a waste of money, lol, it's like $100 an hour and they suck, i got my mom's ex to teach me a few years ago, the teacher that i had didn't know what he was doing.

no snowboarding way harder and skateboarding has nothing to do with snowboarding ......but it's easy to snowboard and falling means you r learning so just try it :)

soooooooooooooooo not true. Skateboarding is the essence of snowboarding. If you can already skateboard well - learning to snowboard is a joke. Carving on a snowboard is almost exactly the same as carving on a snowboard. Most snowboard tricks are based on skateboard tricks as well. Why don't you know this? If you skate - you can snowboard. If you can snowboard - it doesn't necessarily mean you can skateboard though.

i don't agree with you...on a skate you ride on 4 wheels in a snowboard you have all the surface below your feet....this little difference makes these two boards so differents expecially during carving or much more during tricks....

I'm not sure how old you are or whether you skate yourself but if you have ever bombed a hill on a skateboard and carve and do 4 wheel slides to control your speed - you are snowboarding . The only difference is that the friction of the wheels plays the part of the sharp edge on a snowboard. The method is identical - and so are the fine motor controls.

i'm 21...however i know the method is identical but results are differents...i usually snowboarding and sometimes ride a skate but i think there're some little but important differents....for example with a snowbord you can slide in all 4 directions and for this reason you have to be much more carefull during bombing or when you've to stand up....in fact if u don't stand up perpendicular to the descent you'll never reach ur goal...

longboarding and snowboarding have some similarities - mainly balance. the major major distinctive trait to snowboarding is the "sliding" once you get the hang of riding on snow, the sliding is the coolest thing ever.

@mike10401 yea shrd is true my friend skateboarded for 6 years he jsut got his snwoboard we went to the hill and he was destroying and waqs doing 50/50 boardslides and nose presses now we just got to butter and jib :p

is it too late to start snowboarding at age 20? i wish i started snowboarding earlier!! i have never done snowboarding only skiing when i was about 10 or so .. did it for a short while then stopped. I really wanna learn to do freestyle snowboarding

nah, just get out there. take some lessons if you're apprehensive, but if you're familiar with skiing then it shouldn't be too hard!

We have 40 yearolds taking lessons with their teen parents and a lot of them pick up and stick with it afterwards. It's a fun experiance, but I recomend a lesson, don't just try it on your own.

I basically taught myself how to snowboard...I remember the first time...my whole body ached! I did pretty good...doing a full run down the beginners trail by the end of the day. I love snowboarding! Exciting, thrilling ride and the snowboarder's outfit is badass! I rock the goggles!

i got to agree to olerud7! allways keep movin' slowly...never get knees straighted, and keep your nose (tip of the board) up...better fall on back than face...*chup*

Don't be scared of the speed at the valleyside turn! just got to turn it SLOW back to the mountain, so your board will slow down... I'm boarding since 7 years now, trust it's been tough... but if u worked put how to turn, it will come by itself!

helpful video. thank you! I just started & the best advice was to relax & not think. I saw big improvements. Control over speed. move in slooow, slight, smooth motion with your toes & heels. quick movements = fall. always have knees bent - never straight. If in Bromely, VT ski slopes, seek lessons from SAM or Papa Jim. Well worth your time & $.Do not go to Belleyare, NY - Disaster

Did good for a first timer, I was forced onto intermediate hills once i got my turns and balance somewhat down. It's hurts bad to be going really fast and then fall on your face, now i see why people get instructors.

Control over speed, if you FEEL like you are going too fast, you ARE going too fast. If you look reckless on the mountain resorts will take your lift pass and your done for the day.
