I've always wondered why the white light squared bishop has been more "important" of the two, is it because the black king resides on the light squares, even after he castles? That seems the most logical.
i often look for vids for chess strategies to try out on people who i know i can beat lol but if they are worthy i go all napoleon bonaparte strategy on them and whop them lol i love chess
Thx for that! I feel so accomplished... I got both examples right. These interactive videos where you ask the viewer to come up with the best move are very beneficial, it lets me know I'm on the right track :)
im a noob at chess so if any can answer this question feel free.. if a pawn gets promoted when it reaches the other side of the board, can a player chose for it to be a piece that is already on the board? for example a queen when that player's queen is still in game on the board?
I'm only a novice, I'm struggling to see how trading that bishop, sitting on good open diagonals is worth trading for the knight. It would seem to limit possibilities rather than open them.... Guess that's why I lose so often!
this is so very very important lesson.... it can make or break you when this situation comes... you need to decide perfectly in order to gain some advantage...
@Kold2market hopefully you get that I'm just trying to teach chess. If I go over a famous game or look at a specific position that you may have seen somewhere, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to teach chess. I've actually seen this position posted in other places and to be honest the 2nd position is different than CM 10th edition. Some positions in chess I think can never be covered too much. Hopefully you still learned something.
Not that great of an example for a closed game. In that instance, bishops would be more valuable than knights(in my opinion). The knights were pretty much useless where they were. Other than the knight you took, they were doing less than the bishops. Of course, that would still be the best move as it opens up a possible route for the rook later on, the game would most likely just open up eventually. Good video though! :D
@lovedarli This is quite a good example of a closed position. It does have the double effect of having a bad bishop - good knight scenario in the closed position but the truth is that those positions amplify the knight's dominance over the bad (on the same color as the own pawns) bishop. Don't only think where the knight is, think where the knight is going to. This a2-knight has more potential to attach the enemy pawns than the dark-squared bishop.
when the knight attacks the bishop in the open position, cant white just play bishop to f5 and if black takes with pawn then white can capture blacks dark square bishop on e7 with the since it's unprotected. in this variation black ends up with an isolated queenspawn. am i missing something? thx

1)after the queen captures the dark square bishop the light square bishop can take the knight on f3....then there are doubled f pawns...
2)instead of capturing the white bishop with e pawn black could just play Bd6(dark square bishop)...now the white bishop is under threat and black is forced to move it loosing a move...and also the h pawn will be lost subsequently...
I really appreciate you showing us all different strategies and movements. Some guys charge a lot of money for these types of instructions. - Have a nice day.

@Tracer1808 Loloolo just as i think I've had enough of you, you come up with "Talk to the hand"!, that's hilarious, hahahaha. I would do more then talk your hand, better be careful what you ask for.
@flinagin It was obviously a typo you 'tard, not a lack of intelligence so why even bring up something so stupid up, oh wait i know, because you're out of terrible responses so you've resorted to absolutely ridiculously terrible responses, haha ok then, keep going, I'm interested to read your next comment.
Hello, I agree with your lecture, however in your final example, I prefer penetrating with the rooks through Rb7 or Rb5 instead off trading the bishop for the knight
not my intent I assure you. For different examples in chess I try to find great examples that display what I'm trying to go over. I'm sorry if you have already seen the example. I'm really just trying to teach people chess, nothing more.
@Zelrio28 Incorrect. In fact, it is possible to close a game so much that neither player may make any attack. This is called impasse and results in a draw.
hey.can you add me please? or ill send you a friend request.i did subscribe.but the problem is that i am decently good at chess but, however,i keep on losing.and i dont know why.i just look at the pieces and make a few sacrifices.please help me? thank you SO much if you can.

in the second example, when the bishop moved to b5, cant the rook pin the bishop to the rook by moving to b8?

Hey, bishop can escape to f5 and then if a pawn is captured on c2 even better for a white, it can really develop his attack, isn't?

i have a question and im a fish when it comes to chess. at 5:00 the move is bishop to b5 since knights are better.
but can you win it from there or soon after with that set up save it turning into an open game and you having no bishops??
GPNick 2 years ago
@GPNick yeah if you have no bishops and it's an open game you are hopeless but if you had the choice you'd def want to have them.
thechesswebsite 2 years ago

@thechesswebsite So a semi-open game is where both bishop and knights do well in I can assume.
