ooh. digital pickups send my dry over wifi to a digital rack where I have downloaded and programmed efx in any configuration imaginable, controlled also over wifi by a 9v powered "midi-footswitch" -- anything less is just some version of a pedalboard from the 80s
Whatever it is, it will have to be good and useful for people to buy it.
Loads of different pickups are obviously a clue. Are TC going into modelling? Has the phone got anything to do with it? Perhaps.
Is it an app for Iphones, that has something to do with pickups? Who knows.
I think it will be a pedal or an app, otherwise, they wouldn't have made this video to spread hype. (If it's a rackmount reverb unit, lots of guitar players will lose interest immediately)
Yeah... a Marshall amp, a bunch of pickups, and an iphone.... don't tell me: an APP, right.... woah... I'm afraid it's too obscure to be exciting, as there are a million music-related smartphone apps out there... so your vid is under-whelming, and not very intriguing, to say the least....
I think that the real deal going on here is that they're developing an app that can analyze the magnetics properties/magnetic field or general characteristics of any pickup, and after that, they can use that info in order to create tones, presets and sounds to imitate the pickup sound characteristics. Or maybe just to help you set your gear settings in order to get an especific sound of another pickup with guitar that you have..! ????? I don't know. That's the first thing that came to my head..!
@jjvillafane Exactly, it also was the first thing in my head when I saw this video, the only one "problem" here is the use of this device (I do not know if it was an iPhone or an iPod) because even when they are pretty good in some features, they are pretty expensive in my country (Mexico). However, blessings to everyone here, as almost always great products in TC Electronic, and specially blessings to you jjvillafane. Hear ya!!
@jjvillafane obviously an iPhone app that analyzes pickups for one...could be useful in an integration scheme with their equipment somehow. Being able to tailor your Nova System to your guitar/pickups and amp would be awesome....but how?? Hmmm
Another mindblowing technology for people who've mistakenly come to believe their iPhone/Pad/Pod/Othernonsense has anything whatsovever to do with the guitar...
Wow, if that's what I think it is... An iPhone app that can download toneprints - play the data from the iPhone speaker through the instruments pickups (sounds like a modem transmitting data, doesn't it?), and the pedals/amps can recognise it and reprogram themselves with the toneprint? Genius if it's true!
If you hold your iPhone close to a single coil pickup the sound output comes quite cleanly through your amp (really useful for quickly solving arguments when learning stuff in rehearsals! ;-) Maybe TC noticed this & have done something with it?
@gslabaugh ja.. but then you need to have a midi device installed on your guitar and etc. you cant just plug it in and star playing that the program will in real time take note of the notes. q: /
@WithFullDistortion Actually, using something like Finale or other music score program you can record from any midi device and it will track the notes. I believe Finale will chart tab as well. I have a Parker Midi Fly that I have used for this but any midi guitar will work. There is a device for around $99 that you plug your guitar into and it will convert the signal to midi. Not sure how well it works.
Something to do with "tone transfusion"...maybe capture the frequency response of a pickup on one guitar and generate an EQ curve for a TC Electronic pedal so you can apply that pickup's response to your own guitar? That's about as realistic of a possibility that I can think of.
Instead of wasting their time with stupid lego teasers they should release this new polytune firmware that is in beta "available soon" for about half a year.... Also I am sure that the screwed the powercore users are very excited about this teaser! NOT!
do you have any experience with the polytune? With which equipment do you use it and is it working well? Algorithms in the background are for sure complex!
...my guess: an app which will have access to the phones antenna and send specific (20-20kHz) signals as electromagnetic waves. These induce a voltage in the PU-winding and result in a Signal at the output of the Guitar.
So the really cool guys (actually the really lazy ones) just have to select a tune -> hold the phone close to one of the PUs -> move the fingers over the fretboard and wink at the girls ;-)
If so: I´m curious on the digital reproduction of the actual string-movement.
you and your crappy firewire audio interfaces, damn you all to hell!
