Im planning on buying a gibson les paul standard for about 450$ I like how it looks but i wonder if you would recommend it to someone that likes playing more hard rock guitar ie. Queen, Muse? my next option on hte list is a Brian May red Special but thats quite pricey

And there are intonation issues when moving up and down the neck. Having the guitar set up doesn't solve the issues unless I have the neck completely redone. Not worth it on a $400 guitar. Most of all, the guitar is neck heavy, so the neck pulls downward when you're wearing it with a strap. It's a pain to have to hold the neck up while you play. Best played sitting down, and best run through an amp like a Fender or old AC30, running relatively clean. My advice: save for a real Gibson.

I own this guitar in the Amber finish. It was a good first guitar. Now that I've had it a while and have learned a bit more, I find myself not really loving the pickups (I think they tend to be muddy when overdriving an amp, especially with the added bass resonance of the hollowbody. I also don't find it to be the most playable neck (and that's coming from an admittedly sucky guitarist). It definitely is set up poorly from the factory. One of the pickups is actually a bit crooked!

Be careful there. Although I've played a $200 laguna that sounded incredible, and a 5000 dollar Paul Reed Smith Modern Eagle with the fancy Rosewood neck that sounded dead and lifeless, that is not always true.

depends on your style but the mid range epiphones, around 500 600 are pretty good for just about anything depending on your amp

if u want really high end guitars i would get a gibson les paul but those are pricey. if u want a good sounding guitar but not as much cost i would get an epiphone les paul standard plain or plus top (probly plain)
