@TheSwali Thankyou, hence proving my point, as normaly, when making a remark about another version being better, you get moans of "nothing is better than the original" blah blah blah, but that the first reply is agreeing, Tim is better, just proves the statement's truth!! ;) haha
Great gimmick:The supposed criminal wants to be policeman, prosecutor, defence lawyer & judge all on his own?Lord I'm tired and weary.Lord,Everything I done was wrong& I feel like going home.In the spiritually nearsighted eyes we have its possible to assume such. But the Lord sets the tasks, gives & takes our strengths, our talents or lack of.Why judge ourselves as being zero?Maybe in True Eyesight, that of G-D we have achieved more than G-D demanded in this realm. This song is potent emotionally!
When MK starts playing, he tears your soul right open, leaving you in a sentimental state. As I'm having a tough time right now, this definitaly applies to myself. On the other hand, it's also extremely soothing to listen to. I've been a huge fan of Mark Knopfler for a long time, and he's one of those rare artists that hits the right notes at the right time. He's surely in a league of his own. Absolutly brilliant.
The song is legendary and the Notting Hillbillies are great, but the singer is too shy, he looses confidence right after the first well sung few words. Listen to it: "Lord I feel li..." then he suddenly seems to step back. last but not least, this live interpretation is slower than the one on the cd, and I think this doesn't do any good to the song.
@kevlad564 yep, it's just the raw purity of sound produced by someone so deeply involved and intune with the peice that the soufull harmonies steadilly flow through their fingers into the guitar and out to all of us or as put in the I-Ching it's the "Art of Soul"!
I remember when they played at UEA. Mark's name did not stand out so the tickets didn't sell very fast at the beginning, but when people found out... I tell you, one of the very, very best concerts I have ever been to!!!!!
this is so moving..........and tender you are right MK plays lead so good........put the lights ....light a candle....have some wine and cheese...soft breeze and enjoy
unBefuckingleavable.. im 25 mum used to play this cd all the time when i was a lil bubba, and we still listen to it. i listen to it every night while im sleeping. Knopfler is a genius his work with chet atkins was also amazing, a cd called Neck and Neck. If u havnt heard of it check it out
Played this at my best friend's funeral, ....tears and chills still comes to me everytime I hear it, .....breathtakingally reflective of his journey,...... R.I.P., Howie.....( *
I saw this performed by the Notting Hillbillies at Sheffield City Hall. I'll never forget that guitar solo cutting through the air. I nearly fainted. It was one of the great musical experiences of my life. I've got the chills just recalling it now... Just pure magic. Out of this world.
He makes that guitar sing the blues...now that is a weeping guitar..I love all versions of this song but this guy has a really good voice. "Turn Back the Hands of Time would sound so good if Mark played it.
tht statment is a bit harsh, knopfler makes this song weith the guitar solo m but on the other hand croker makes this song personally i think its a two headed coin :P
I left America to work in Korea due to things going terribly wrong back home (personally and politically,) and it looks like I'm stuck here for a very long time due to an illness that will prevent me from EVER getting health care in America again. Does anybody have a version or copy of this, where the 'sync' doesn't misfire at the second verse?
I have the original on primitive video, but it's recorded in mono and sounds really hissy on todays stereo machines.
Anybody willing to help?
