Brass Bands were never about money, My Ex played in the Elland Silver Band and she had to pay to be a member, she even taught young kids in her own time. In a mad situation my ex was limbering up on the Euphonium for a show, and I was working out the bass riff to Hotel California.

what do people think of the £20 grand a year sponsorship deal which the Grimethorpe band( some players on £200 a week in the 1980's just for sweeping the bandroom and picking up the paper while lads were not getting paid ) enjoyed during the 1980's and the £80k which goes on the players now? check it out charity commission website..
I'd think that some extremely talented musicians are getting paid a lot less than they could get working in London etc., and that the Band are putting money into the hands of people that would otherwise have nothing (hence why they were sweeping the bandroom), thus doing a great service to their community, in addition to the other very real work the Band do in the area.
Of course, if you can do better, I'm sure they're always looking for more players, or you could even set up your own band.
All of the actors with speaking roles you see "playing" are not actually playing. I suspect everyone else really is playing, although you don't get a close enough look to know for sure. All except the guy playing the solo starting at 1:07. He is definitely playing, and he's very good too. Take it from someone who's been playing for more than 20 years. Great movie too.

The strike was about saving a profitable industry, it's related jobs & the community that was built up around that industry. Collery towns were so-called because a vast majority of the jobs of the people who lived in them was related to the pit. The proposed closures were political.

what do people think of the £20 grand a year sponsorship deal which the Grimethorpe band( some players on £200 a week in the 1980's just for sweeping the bandroom and picking up the paper while lads were not getting paid ) enjoyed during the 1980's and the £80k which goes on the players now? check it out charity commission website..

I'd think that some extremely talented musicians are getting paid a lot less than they could get working in London etc., and that the Band are putting money into the hands of people that would otherwise have nothing (hence why they were sweeping the bandroom), thus doing a great service to their community, in addition to the other very real work the Band do in the area.
Of course, if you can do better, I'm sure they're always looking for more players, or you could even set up your own band.

All of the actors with speaking roles you see "playing" are not actually playing. I suspect everyone else really is playing, although you don't get a close enough look to know for sure. All except the guy playing the solo starting at 1:07. He is definitely playing, and he's very good too. Take it from someone who's been playing for more than 20 years. Great movie too.

The strike was about saving a profitable industry, it's related jobs & the community that was built up around that industry. Collery towns were so-called because a vast majority of the jobs of the people who lived in them was related to the pit. The proposed closures were political.

Firstly may I say what an excellent rebuttal that was; in terms of content.
I would point out that it is more likely that the south of the country, and the middle classes in particular, were responsible for the huge boom in computer technology and Telecommunications. t's my opinion that we bring in the majority of this country's worth down here.
