I am not defending her in any sort of way, but I understand the mentally ill. People forget that mental illnesses are true illnesses. Just like any working part of your body, like your heart or liver, the brain can develop diseases. Some are more visable, such as mental retardation or alzheimers, and some are less visable.... visable only during times of stress, when it is 'too late'. People hold these feelings in because they feel trapped and scared, because they know they are 'wrong'.
@shiiuza We need to try and remove the stigma surrounding mental illness so that people: 1) Feel safe to open up to others and get help before it's too late, and 2) Know who to turn to for help. Again, I am not defending her actions or excusing her in any sort of way. We are still resonsible for ourselves, whether or not we were "in our right minds". But there is help available. It's very sad, for everyone involved (including her... her life is ruined, too), that she never turned to help.

He knew how bad she was but didn't get her admitted. Rusty expected Jesus to heal her. Quitting meds when you're not ready leads to med resistance later.

Am I the only one who feels sorry for this woman and think the husband is a jerk? In alot of ways she is a victim She was left alone with 5 kids under the age of 7 in a moter home where her husband insisted she home school her kids He was stongly urged after her hospital stays for mental illness to keep her under supervision He saw her try to kill herself TWICE?! Insurance runs out and cannot afford the care she so badly needs and he goes off to work and leaves her alone with the kids?

Also, correlations don't mean causation, but they do infer a relation between two variables. besides, when the hell did I mention anything related to correlation anyway? Andrea was suffering from severe psychosis. Her post partum depression was severe. Rusty made her live in a old bus because Rusty believed in a particular pastor. He treated her like a breeding mare. He knew how bad she was but didn't get her admitted. Rusty expected Jesus to heal her. Quitting meds when you're not ready leads to med resistance later.

@commieplot Christianity brings a boiling point, I too was lost without a way to be right with God with church teachings. Keeping the law in order to obtain a rightness led to great repression, and ultimately a bottom.
More emphasis should be put on computing the inner darkness rather than denying it exists at all, which is mainly what ends up happening to the psyche of most in this perplexing situation.

This woman attempted suicide twice, was diagnosed with postpartum depression, and later postartum psychosis. Psychosis is the result of mental sickness. Biological and genetic research has proved it.
