How large (in weight) is your "pack" of tofu? I keep finding tofu recipes that just say "a package" or "a pack". I'm in Italy, and what I find here won't necessarily be the same thing as your standard size package, and I may have to adjust the recipe a bit. Thanks!
I am going to try this tonight! I can't believe some of the ignorant comments on this video.
And RummyKunt, ofcourse the inside is still white. When you marinade chicken does the flavour seep in through all of the chicken meat? No it doesnt. GAH!
@vergon69minas The reason many people are Vegans is not because they don't like the taste of animal products, but rather the cruelty that's involved in the the treatment of those animals that are used for food, and as well their eventual slaughter. Many Vegans (especially in the U.S.), were raised on these animal products and bi products, so they have naturally developed their tastes for those particular things. So, Vegans attempt to replicate those tastes without the cruelty or animal slaughter
Can't believe we save 100 animals a year, GO VEGANS!
Thanks for this recipe, I didn't know about leaving the tofu that it would take this taste. Seems so delicious and I have all the ingredients, I think that's what I'm gonna do for dinner :D
Loved being Vegetarian and it wasn't enough, I realize I was being not good to animals yet, now I'm Vegan
Everyone who loves animals, who loves Mother Earth or is awaken will turn Vegan
I made this a little while ago, and am going to make it again soon (just need to get to the store for some tofu!); it's fantastic! I'd never cooked with frozen and thawed tofu before, love the texture it gives it. Will definitely make this for my omnivore parents next time we visit, as well as a vegan cheesecake recipe I found on the Vegan Pandamonium site. I wish I could make everyone try these delicious recipes...
with all my respect... but if you are so proud to call yourself vegan... why do you still want to eat something that has or kind similar flavor of meat?
@RonaldBarone I don't know why people see a conflict here. Many people who go vegan lose the taste for meat, and many don't. Some miss the taste, and products/recipes like these go a long way keeping them on a vegan diet. Others, like me, do not miss the taste of meat at all, but enjoy simulated meat products. The taste is not 100% identical, but it's enough to satisfy those who miss it, and it's delicious for many of us who are completely grossed out by the real thing.
Ah, when you said defrosted tofu, I took that simply as tofu that isn't frozen. Now I know why my "firm" tofu has the consistency of custard, even when I drain it properly..
The brand wouldn't have anything to do with it either, would it? I get the feeling mine's just cheap.
@sicpooch im not sure, correct me if im not right but vegans dont save any animals? They still kill them but throw the meat away instead? im not sure but i cant see how vegans SAVES animals.
@KungKevinRS You're mis-informed. It's about supply and demand. Vegans don't consume anything animal related so therefore the demand decreases - or should do - over a period of time. It's easy to assume that everything in society that's supplied to us isn't demanded in the first place - one of the reasons that Humans don't question the mass slaughter and cruel treatment of animals worldwide is because 'it's already been killed'. People don't tend to think the other way around.
I'm aware that you listed defrosted tofu. I asked if that was because it gave it a chewier texture, just like my question states. I've never bothered freezing tofu. I was just wondering why you froze it.
people whos hair are falling, is because they have some sort of nutrition deficiency. Its not very easy at all to not get enough nutrition on a vegetarian diet. Its weird because people usually think the opposite (like with protein) but the average American actually get WELL over the daily allowance.
Like with any diet, variety is important. Not just to please you taste buds, but to get all the different nutrients.
I substituted my milk to soy milk and I don't intake a lot of tofu. But I'll give this a try.
I have heard it's a little risky to substitute all your dairy for tofu, but for now, all i'm drinking is soy milk. I hope my hair doesn't fall nor anything lol.
@lilwave123 I agree, we should vary our sources of protein. Before being veggie I was never exposed to pulses and beans, but a few years down the line and now as a vegan, I love experimenting with all kinds of pulses, and one portion counts towards five a day!
hi! i have just recently become vegetarian, im still confused whether i like tofu or not. could you send me this recipe in a smaller amount, if its not to much trouble? i dont want to make alot of tofu just to find out i dont like it. thanks so much! :D
hmm this was my first attempt they didnt come out too good :X i think i didnt let them sit in the marinade long enough becaus when i bit into one the insie was stil white
Not going to lie, this music makes me wanna shoot myself. Other than that great video. Does the tofu have to be frozen before hand, or can you just buy... err.. fresh tofu?
The music is peaceful, I think if people get depressed with it, they probably are already depressed. Sorry. I like the recipe but unfortunately do not like the taste of soya milk. Can we replace this with coconut milk instead?
BTW, I am vegetarian too, so nice to see people like you! Thanks so much.
I never tried rice milk. Perhaps I should. BTW, I have very low cholesterol. My problem as with many vegetarians is low vitamin B12, low iron and low vitamin D (Vitamin D is from sunshine though...hehe)
Rice dream is the most expensive but the best tasting imho. Just some facts: Vegetarians don't need to supplement with B12 but Vegans do, it's a bacteria that's washed off vegetables, and deficiency signs only appear after 5 years, you can take a supplement a weekly dose of 2000ug. Millet is high in iron, as are Goji berries which have more iron than steak.
Oh, thanks for the info on Goji berries. Can we get these in England? Part of my iron problem is due to a health problem that I had last year and I had internal blood loss. The B12 I was told it could be due that I was born without intrinsic factor (although I never was told this before I was 36). I really don't like to overdose myself with vitamins, I did that with B12 on one occasion and I was told to stop immediately (apparently high B12 can increase cancer risk).
Curly kale and many other green vegetables have 6 times more calcium than cows milk. Flaxseed oil has 6 times more omega 3 than fish oils and no toxicity risk, hemp seed oil has omega 3, 6 and 9 in the correct ratio that the body needs it.
Thanks. I love an Italian vegetable called Cavolo Nero. It is used in expensive restaurants such as the River Cafe here in London, but has also recently been available at some supermarkets (Waitrose and Sainsburys). The taste is incredible and it is a lot richer in iron than spinach. Like I said, the taste is super delicous if you fry it with olive oil, a litle chilli and garlic and serve on top of nice pasta. Only problem is that now is no longer in season, but remember next Winter. Take care.
Supr resipe - I'd ad crusht cumin in the bredkrumz.
