  • Hogan had hair? Tony Atlas had a thin waist? What crazy parallel universe is this in?

  • blind Referee

  • blind Referee

  • I remember when I was a kid my older brother telling me Tony Atlas press slammed Hogan and I didn't believe him for the longest time.

  • @Chrisdrumz.. I believe it was the Wrestler.. Definitely not PWI..

  • Atlas was held down and descriminated against by McMahon Inc. He was a man, a wrestling man, and not a "boy." His moma didn't raise no fool.

  • NO...Vince was not making an example of Atlas, Atlas was a idiot....according to people like Rocky Johnson, Atlas had a million dollar body and a 50 cent brain. Which his body was a million times better than Hogan's, Atlas was not very intelligent and he was a bad business man.

  • @joeybrabham i can tell you right now thats not true the man is smart knows how to hanle his money vary inteligent man him and rocky nevr liked each other but thats just how it was atlas could keep his cool at times so hewont worried about what rocky or anybody else was sayn

  • It's funny, when I was a kid, the wrestling magazines would talk about how Atlas had pinned Hogan in msg...but they never mentioned that Hogan's entire leg was in the ropes and that it came off a low blow lol...they made it seem like he press slammed him then pinned him clean...friggin' liars lol.

  • @Jonwood74 I was just thinking the same thing. Magazines showed the press slam, but they never mentioned the foot on the rope in this case. After all these years, first time seeing this match and Hollywood was robbed..lol Good match though. Better than the bullshit we're seeing today.

  • @HardrockGX You got that right....I can barely stand to watch the stuff today. Somewhere along the way wrestlers have become whining politicians...every week there's somebody on a soap box pissing and moaning about how they're being held back or some other nonsense. Gimme the old days anytime.

  • @HardrockGX Was it THE WRESTLER that had the pic of the slam on the cover and the headline: "The Battle Between Wrestlings Supermen!"? Maybe it was INSIDE WRESTLING. I know it wasn't PWI.

  • not that many wrestlers could fully press hulk hogan.and hold him up that long Atlas was strong as hell

  • This is BS that this is the best video you can get of this match. This was good stuff, but the E never releases videos of it. Tony Atlas was one of my favorites. When can we get a comp of him in an official release?

  • Actually, the ref deserved what he got. Instead of letting the better man win he decided to make an impact by acting like he didn't see Hogan's foot on the ropes. There is no way he didn't see it.

  • At one point it looked as if Atlas didn't know what to do against Hogan but he rebounded with a flying bodypress. Atlas was a class act!

  • A lot of people here have commented that Atlas was never allowed to reach his full potential in the WWF. In "Sex, Lies and Headlocks" and his newspaper column, Mike Mooneyham revealed why (and how) Vince Jr. made an example of Atlas by firing him. The book claims that Vince wanted to impress his authority upon the other wrestlers by asserting it over Atlas. At the time, Tony's fast living made him an easy target.

  • I beleive this is 1982 and this would be the LAST time Hogan was Cleanly pinned until 1990 at Wrestlemania 6

  • @cavemac1 1981. his press slam of Hogan was on the cover of the Aug 1981 issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated. prob my fav cover pic of all time. Hogan liked to use the lock up and turnbuckle throw in the beginning of matches with the stronger wrestlers. He used it in 1980 with Andre, 1981 with Atlas, and 1990 with Warrior. i guess you can say he was "cleanly" pinned but his foot was on the rope. a classic match nontheless, Atlas was HUGE AND RIPPED.

  • @jb68025 Oh yes that right i know which issue your talking about Hogan has the suprised "oh no" look on his face before being slammed, and hogan would have the turnbuckle throw against him later on in his career as well i guess so the audience would beleive that there may be a force stronger than Hulkamania!

  • @cavemac1 I believe that it was late 1980 or early 1981. Hogan was on his way out of the WWF and on his way to Memphis, Florida and then the AWA. Atlas went to various promotions before coming back and winning the tag title with Johnson.

  • @cavemac1 Last time I checked a clean pin fall means no controversy. Hogan's foot was in the ropes for the entire 3 count hence no clean pin. Also I think Inoki may have gotten a backslide pin on Hogan in Japan sometime after this match. That pin, by the way, was clean.

  • good match

  • Tony has some of the best physiques along with:

    Boby Lashley

    The Putskis

    Rocky Johnson

    Sid Justice

    Chronic

    (rick rude)

  • This is a film of a film.Where's the original?

  • Hogan is the best!

  • Hogan got his revenge for the outcome of this match. He became a 15-time champion. I would've loved to seen Tony given the same chance.

  • Hogan may have gotten his look from "Superstar" Billy Graham but he got the hand to the ear and the "hulking up" from Atlas.

  • Atlas is one of the few men at that time that could gorilla press Hogan. I've seen Animal of the Road Warriors and the Ultimate Warrior duplicate what Atlas did but none had the love and respect of the fans like Atlas. Atlas is from Roanoke, Virginia. I live 20 miles south of Roanoke in Rocky Mount. We have always been proud of Tony.

  • before steroids...what OUR problem?

  • Awesome ending. At a time when many believed it was all real,i'm sure that seeing the ref get jacked blew them away.

  • 4:36 I remember seeing that photo in prowrestling illistrated. wow. thanks for the upload

  • @spoodyface It was on the cover. The caption read "The Battle Between Wrestlings Supermen".

  • Atlas just delived the best pres slam on Hogan and the best standing drop kick I ever saw.

  • Tony Atlas was one of the many that slipped through with Vince, many characters that he didn't develop to their full potential

  • Atlas had no lower body...weird

  • Atlas was never pushed the way he should have been. He was so popular. And I was always a Hogan fan. Great feud.

  • the best wrestler is the ultimate warrior and thanks for the uploader of this video he is the same country of mine ^_^

  • Atlas was so huge he made Hogan looked like a normal man. Look at the arms on Atlas.

  • The difference between the two Tony Atlas was a body builder , and Hogan was roiding it up.

  • the only pinfall against Hogan till Ultimate warrior did it a million years later....i think

  • This started in Georgia Championship Wrestling. 1979.

  • @NAYellowjackets

Yeah, Ole fired Hogan before anything could happen.

  • what a press and slam, 10x better than warrior

  • Hell yeah!! Man the strength of Atlas was impressive on that hugh?!!

  • he strength was awesome, i wish Vince had did more character development with him, he would of been great when the WWF was taking off 84-87

  • man this is when wrestling was great and when there was a real threat

this is when characters were built up for hype and you always wondered what would happen is so and so crossed paths

  • 4:30

  • The referee deserved the beating because Hogan's foot was on the ropes. I loved heel Hogan from 1979-81 in the WWF.

  • What's your opinion of NWO-era Hogan (in WCW)?

  • @AngelofAnguish To be honest it was a great part in the history of wrestling what about you ?

  • In my opinion, it was alright. I guess, at that time, WCW had no more or were "running low or out of bad guys." So, what do you do? Take the business' most recognized or popular personality and turn him into a villain! Looking back, I really didn't care for his entourage, though-"Buff" Bagwell, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, X-Pac, and whoever else was at his side. I'm wondering if Hogan's NWO merchandise "edged" out his "Hulkamania" merchandise.

  • ultimate warrior somewhat military press ed hogan but not as good as atlas

  • 4:30 is like woah...tony is a strong dude

  • was this 81

  • yes my dear

  • Hogan said in several interviews that at first Andre The Giant didn't like and that Andre used to tan his hide he would beat the crap out of Hogan

  • thanks my dear

  • @lambert581

    english please?

no offense but this barely makes sense

  • @jhniscolV2 I said when Andre first met Hogan Andre didn't like Hogan and used to shoot on Hogan. Thats what Hogan said

  • I think this was Hogan's last match at MSG for almost 3 years

  • yes my dear and thank you for your comment

  • hogan's foot was on the rope

  • thank you for your comment

  • tony atlas one of the few men to milatary press hulk hogan
