I saw this at the arcade of a skating rink, and I thought, "I can't miss this." So I played for most of the time while all my friends were skating. I know they probably thought I was nerdy or something, but I didn't care, because I had Virtua Fighter!!
one of the best childhood fighting game for me my best friend had a 32X and i was always at his home we even had a fighting tournament because of this game loll sorry bad english
They should've put this and the other interesting 32X games on the Wii's Virtual Console, PS3 Playstation Network, and Xbox 360's Live Arcade. I love playing Virtua Fighter and always interested on playing the first.
@monkey5711 No, but you can play it for free on your PC. Just download Kega Fusion (a Genesis/Sega CD/32 emulator) then download the Virtua Fighter ROM (it's usually in the Genesis section of most emulation sites) and there you go.
I bought a 32X when it came out in Europe, because I loved the Sega Arcades and wanted to have all "Virtuas" at home. And StarWars Arcade. My Friends laughed at me. But I was enjoying every minute! Still love the charm.
Once I get a summer job, I'll be working to get the extra cash to splurge on a Sega Genesis, a Sega 32X, an extra controller for two player, virtua racing, and virtua fighter. Shouldn't be too incredibly expensive. I'm not wasting any more money on a Saturn until I'm ready. The first one I got conked out within a week; the disk drive stopped working. What a ripoff. Cartridges are more reliable. GO CARTRIDGES!
The Arcade game was mighty fun, I didn't care about the weird graphics, and if you do care about the graphics being bad you miss the point of this game, sheer fun
You know, I have to admit that I have always hated the look of this game. Even when it was new when I saw it in the arcade in the early 90's I thought it looked ugly. 3D games just weren't ready yet.
@Reptilazer The other way around. This baby predates FD by 5 years, during which the genre gave us Tekken, Soul Blade and Battle Arena Toshinden to name a few.
I still think that somewhere in Virtua Fighter they should have a way to unlock a video of the cast doing a remake of the "Money For Nothing" video by: the Dire Straits...
All moves, punches and kicks are like in Tekken. It have the speedy fight like games of Namco. Jacky looks like Paul and move, kick like Paul and has the same ending of battle like Paul. Sarah looks and move like Nina, but has jumping-kick like Law .Kage looks and move like Raiven. I am sorry for my english.
I really want a 32x for my Sega genesis model 1.I have the Sega CD attachment for it but not the 32x thingy yet.I cant wait to get it to play this game! Do you guys recomend any other 32x games?!
How many games did he have that was glove enabled or were made to be used with the glove. Not a game that was an after thought, but an actual Power Glove game?
AVGN digs too deep in every single thing. But that is one reason why I like him, because he is funny and some of the things do make sense in a crazy kind of way. Like the first time I saw him play Top Gun and he could not land and he bashed it. Common sense to me is that the directions on the game pad were reversed and later on he admitted to it. He bashed the power glove badly too and maybe it deserved it, but I do not think he tries hard enough, but that is why he is AVGN
Although I love AVGN, he is more about bashing 99% of the time. In fact he has only had one real review where he said a game was good and that was for Duck Tales. I like him for all laughs and bad games and CGR for real games and some good funny moments. However, 32X was really not that good from the stand point of all that had to go into it and then they were already coming out with a new system anyway and abandoned it. But for the 32 being more powerful, not by much.
Ah definately my favourite game for the 32X which IMO actually has a pretty decent library considering it was only around for a year or two. But if anyone could help answer a question for me, I've heard that the 32X had additional audio chipsets in it but was rarely used. Does this game make use of it?
Between October 1994 and June 1995 there was alot of activity in the Sega world and if you were a gamer sunk in hard on everything they had out at the time you know as well as I do that having this game on your TV at Christmas time 1994 you couldn't have asked for a better present.
I seem to sometimes like older versions of currently continuing fighting series for their straightforward simplicity.
Like this Tekken 5 I just got, it has T1, 2 and 3 on it. And all those three games are really enjoyable, even if it's just to see where the series has its roots.
And Law's war-screams in T1 and 2 are just hilarious.
I actually originally had a 32X. While I still feel a little ripped off by Sega. I had many many hours of fun playing Virtua Fighter, Doom, Star Wars: Arcade, and Mortal Kombat II. You can get a 32X for dirt cheap now, so if you like classic gaming I would pick one up.
I''m not a fan of the 32x, but this is pretty damn good for considering what it's running on. And the music is acutally pretty damn good. You see a port like Doom for 32x and they completely butchered the soundtrack, but here it sounds 10X better.
Man, having played both the arcade and the sega saturn versions this looks terrible, but at least it doesn't have the "patience grasshoper" loading message. However, it still moves smoothly.
i have this game for sega saturn, but the version of saturn have better graphics and quality of the sound. and you are right, it still very fun to play this game, and is more fun with multiplayer.

Don't worry. Even on the Pc you have to wait several minutes for the logos to finish DX. It is like suddenly you can't even skip the logos any more. So your rant is pretty reasonable
@RowdyRodimus Add to that the "login screen" where you choose your 'username' on the PS3, having to select you want to use it to PLAY the GAME in the slot, not watching news or buying online flowers or whatever and the annoying shut down sequence to turn the thing off. I'd add Clippy and have it make say "It seems you want to turn the PS3 off. Do you want me to help you to shut the PS3 off, you illiterate cretin?"
@RowdyRodimus Sony is guilty of worse things, like their 40 minute updates for games and the console. Frequent, long updates, it drives me mad, even with Fios it took me an hour and a half to update the game and the system.
sega consoles have always been underrated unfortunately... no one gave them the chance to actually test and like their consoles it was mostly for the hardcore sega fans.
Mark, you wouldn't believe what happened. This guy posted a video on your channel, I don't know what it was but it was definitely not CGR quality. I guess you've sorted it out now. It was painful ;_;
I always like the look of some 32x games, the more rare titles, are pretty expensive though, obivously spiderman, is very expensive, but so are some others.
Sarah Bryant, still my favourite character in VF5. Two player in the original must be fun even today. They should make an online multi player version for the current gen.
I just had a flashback on playing this game in chuckie cheese as a kid.....and kicking this grown-ups ass! i think i was the ninja. great review CGR 5/5
i was one of those few who had a 32X and Virtua Fighter 32X at the time, and i played this game to bits. i had so much fun with it -- so much so, in fact, that for me almost any version i played since (3tb, 4, 5) has proved to be a bit of a letdown... yeaaaah!!!
Looks good but I'd still rather play this on the Saturn. More specifically Virtua Fighter Remix, which fixes a lot of the graphical issues and bugs of the original release
@dublob1234 there is a cod 6 review, but the reason CGR is so popular, is that it just doesnt review new games that are popular, it reviews a wide range of genres even if the game is cult. Besides, there's more to life than cod.
the only game from genesis/32x/scd era that has widescreen and this makes big difference on todays TVs

The graphics remind me a bit of Sumotori Dreams, which is also a great game.

Never understood why this game got popular I would rather play good looking 2D game then ugly 3D games.

@cowboyscowboys
When i was playing it as a kid it didn't look that bad.

It would be cool if you could do a side by side between the 32x version to both of the Saturn versions (flat and shaded versions).

sega consoles have always been underrated unfortunately... no one gave them the chance to actually test and like their consoles it was mostly for the hardcore sega fans.

The game-play for this Virtua Figher game looks exactly like the game play in the Teken series. Wonder who had it first? Great Review.
h20DDs 1 year ago
@h20DDs
Virtua Fighter came out in November 1993 (arcade), and Tekken came out almost exactly 1 year later in December 1994 (arcade).
Chaniyth 1 year ago
@Chaniyth So Virtua Fighter did have the gameplay first, thanks for the heads up.

The game play to this game looks so similar to Teken's gameplay, somebody had the idea first, Take that Namco,lol Great Review.

Mark, you wouldn't believe what happened. This guy posted a video on your channel, I don't know what it was but it was definitely not CGR quality. I guess you've sorted it out now. It was painful ;_;
Good to have you back.

I always like the look of some 32x games, the more rare titles, are pretty expensive though, obivously spiderman, is very expensive, but so are some others.

Sarah Bryant, still my favourite character in VF5. Two player in the original must be fun even today. They should make an online multi player version for the current gen.

I heard this didn't have any of the clipping problems of the Saturn version... shame about the sound.

i was one of those few who had a 32X and Virtua Fighter 32X at the time, and i played this game to bits. i had so much fun with it -- so much so, in fact, that for me almost any version i played since (3tb, 4, 5) has proved to be a bit of a letdown... yeaaaah!!!

Wow, I still have this same game. I remember I used to play this all the time =) Thank you.

it looks horrible, but i like how the characters move, there's fighting style seems kinda real like,
loveabldemon 1 year ago
Looks good but I'd still rather play this on the Saturn. More specifically Virtua Fighter Remix, which fixes a lot of the graphical issues and bugs of the original release

Its cool that u review old games but u would get more popular if u reviewed more games like modern warefare 2
dublob1234 1 year ago
@dublob1234 You obviously haven't been watching Classic Game Room for long... :/
Pachireecko 1 year ago 24
@dublob1234 Really? Look at the title, CLASSIC GAME ROOM. TBH COD MW2 is a major fail in my opinion and I LOVE! COD games.
t0wn513 1 year ago
@dublob1234 there is a cod 6 review, but the reason CGR is so popular, is that it just doesnt review new games that are popular, it reviews a wide range of genres even if the game is cult. Besides, there's more to life than cod.
