Thanks Tom, I have used this technique many times and so far have none have come back. The alternative is make a new spindle and sneak it in another way that is as good as can be. That is technique # 38 which I will show one of of thees Day. Cheers,Dave

How would you attach a missing spindle to a chair if you could not take the chair apart without further damage.?

i’ve re glued and repaired many antique chairs, self taught, but that spring and dowel thing is new to me. Not sure I understand it’s purpose.

@lennyf1957 its so he can get the dowel in to act as a loose tenon without bending the spindle or moving parts of the chair around.
