I agree with Kirk about the solo part. St. Anger is a prime example. St. Anger riff wise was a great record in my opinion. It lost a lot of punch however because it lacked the Hammett ingredient in the mix (solos) and Lars drums sounded like banging on tin cans. Then we come to Death Magnetic. Killer record as a whole, solos back, no more tin can sound on drums BUUUT. It's so loud and clips so bad that it ruins what could be an amazing record. LOVE Metallica but keeping it real about this.
