Note well : this is NOT a stereo re-recording. The Fleetwoods recorded this a capella and the instrumentation was added later. The original mono 45 had only the sparse guitar accompaniment (and by legend Gary shaking his keyring) and when a stereo version was issued on 45 the bongos were added. The vocal track is EXACTLY the same on both versions!
This was also released on the United Artists records' "Very Best of The Fleetwoods" LP from 1975. Not only are there bongos added to the track but if you compare it to the mono version (which was the one most heard and readily available) you'll notice the bass line in the two are different. This was a stereo re-recording of the tune.
There are 10 songs from 1959 that I could recite anytime, anywhere at the snap of a finger, and I'm sure this is one of them. Strangely enough too is the fact that I often think of fluffy snow a fallin' in association with this song...now isn't that strnage?, no not always, it's when I'm listening to this #1 classic...anyway we do have that chance of geeting some up here in lotusland(Vancouver Cda). Keep this one posting & thanks.
The interesting thing is... I've found a mono copy of the Liberty single, expecting it to have the bongos as well -- but they're present only in the stereo 45 version!
Absolutely love the song and the sound.
