Drow are awesome when done right, but I (like many experienced gamers) are sick and tired of seeing every drow winding up a Drizzt clone. He was the exception, not the rule. They are evil! Play em right, or not at all.

@chasethedreaminsd I agree with that. I play D&D, and whenever my group plays with outsiders, we'll occasionally come across someone saying their a Drow, but try to pass off as a 'dark skinned' elf. First off, Drizzt never got used to the sun, so they should have to do penalty rules, and as you said, EXCEPTION, and a very large one at that. My friend has a half-drow character, and that is kind of believable, but he also plays him right, he's chaotic neutral, so really he just does as he pleases.

Drow can love, Its rare just as not all undead are evil the elven Litches are good but they are very very rare as is real love between Drow, its not a concept that is embraced in the Underdark but there have been cases of it happening. though mostly is just merely lust and infatuation

those characters are from another series of forgotten realms, called War of the Spider Queen, that doesn't actually have anything to do with drizzt.

I think that Drow are able to love each other - but it is seldom done coz drow suspect those next to them to betray them.

That's what makes 'love' kinda difficult for Drow ;)

Also everyone tries to seize the most power he/she can get. Easiest way to do so is to betray someone else.

That's why drow say - love is weak, fear is strong/er.

it's just a bit more than 'drow can not love'

they surely can, but they simply don't or show it. A drowsociety is a hard place to live...

Halistra died because she dared to open her heart to another goddess. Ryld died because he was protecting his 'love' from Jeggred, triel's dreagloth son.

I know how they died, but Halisstra died out of sheer stupidity, it wasn't abandoning Lolth, it was trying to go BACK to Lolth that killed her.

Ryld only died because Jeggred found an axe on the floor thanks to crashing through a random logging camp and it happened to be magic that was somehow able to break a weapon forged and enchanted against that sort of thing.

Of course Drow love. There is not a single intelligent organism that doesnt feel love of one sort or another. Just because drow are very selfcentered doesn't mean they are incapable of love. Just the method they are raised in ther culture discourages showing those feelings.

Within all of the novels you will find this debated constantly, that is, whether or not the drow are naturally evil or are raised that way. The whole nature versus nurture argument is actually the at the core of the drow story and what sets them as a breed apart. Although it is controversial issue you will however be able to find (on wikipedia) the name of a town of dark elves that are actually uncharacteristically kind the characteristic being the only arguable part
