Please listen to my new song that I've uploaded on my page. I would really appreciate it if you would be able to let me know what you think about it. Thanks so much.
unnikrishnan"s greatness lies in those difficult gamakas which he accomodates with in the excellent rhythmic beats of the taalam.another great quality is the bhakthi bhava with which he renders!!!
I don't think he had any idea of the lyrics as i see him presenting in the sense of swaras than the sahitya....i wish musicians understand the lyrics first though its of different language, coz the very essence of music as somebody said is the divinity and thats how these keerthanas came....out of their devotion....
Thanks so much for your inputs Being a Tamil, my understanding of Telugu is next to nothing However I am always trying to correct my mistakes while I am writing down the lyrics Notwithstanding my mistakes I write down the lyrics for all Carnatic music lovers to follow the song as they hear the kriti
There is another song in the same raga - ganamurthy by Thyagaraja. Unnikrishnan does a beautiful interpretation of this song in his own inimitable music.
actually, the raaga of the krithi ganamurthy is "ganamurthi"....so it is not the raaga for this song. If I am not mistaken, the raaga for this krithi is chandra jyothi
Yes It is Chandrajyoth There is a film song in GUNA "Paartha vizhi Paarthirukka" in the same raaga The lyrics for this Thiyagaraja kriti are Pallavi- Baagayanayya Nee Maayalendho Bhrumma kynakoni neeaadatharamaa AP- Eegaarudamunu yonarinju chunuu Nekaathanesu palgutayuu Charanam Aalanaadukau ravula nanasamaana Alarithosamaana narunijuuchi paapa Palamuneeku thanaku lethani chakaga Paalanamu seya letha Thyagarajanutha
AyyA! Your little miraculous tricks are so amazing, no one, not even Brahma, can understand and describe and praise them adequately. After creating all the maaya you then claim you had nothing to do with them! When once you asked Arjuna to destroy the Kauravas, he agonized saying it would be a sin. You, NaaraayaNaa assured him that the effects of that destruction would not be a sin that would adversely affect him, and you gave him salvation
Carnatic one of purest most melodious form a blessing from the mother land India i am a and i am proud of my Indian ancestry...now has world wide acceptant not just in India..
wow! gr8...very inspiring for me 2 practice music...such art lovers and art pursuers should should multpily...indian culture is now so western that there is not much that is traditional...such ppl deserve deserve gr8 respect! thank you!
unnikrishnan has done an excellent job on this thyagaraja masterpeice. not only is it in a difficult and rare raga, but he has effortlessly improvised swaras in a challenging deshaadi adi tala.
The version of this song from MLV seems to be definitive. This is not an easy ragam for vocalists.

...another average rendering by Unnikrishnan. Comparison may be not appropriate, but Dr Balamurali Krishna's version comes to mind first.

I regret you mispronunced the words, so as the Musian, correct way is:
Pallavi:
baagaayanayyaa nee maaya lentO
Brahma kaina koniyaaDa taramaa?
Approx. Translation:
Your 'maya's are great, even Lord Brahma can not understand your gretaness!
Charanam: Ala naaDu( that day) kauravula ( Kouravas of Mahabharatha) naNacha (pin-down)...
Your expression of the pronunciation is not correct, Sir. I appreciate your attempt , though! :)

Nice vivaadi raga Chandrajyoti, janyam of 41st Melakarta Paavani. Well sung by Unnikrishnan, the accompanists are great too.
The song that is popular in Paavani is 'Paartha Vizhi' from the movie Gunaa, composed by none other than Maestro Ilaiyaraja.
If the kriti in this video reminds of that song from Gunaa, then you are 100% right. Except, there is no Nishaadam in Chandrajyoti.

Isn't paartha vizhi the raagam gaanamurthe ? Are these the same raaga or similar then ?
dinboy778 3 years ago
No it is not. They are entirely different ragas.

@chamataka
hi, i do not know much of carnatic music and artist names.
i am looking for this song, it was used in a background of another video, but that video is not available on youtube anymore.
apparently the artist who performed the song is a popular carnatic music artist
the name was something like "Yogeshwaran" but i'm not sure if that is correct.
do you know of any artist of similar name?
BoxerMonkey 4 months ago
@BoxerMonkey are you referring to Manickam Yogeswaran?

@chamataka
YES! That is the artist i was looking for!
thank you so much :)

Good kriti in gambira rasa which demonstrates versatile nature Karnataka Music .

nice but a little too soft - could have used a little more gambheera rasam - especially the soft touch mridangam.
