  • Thank you for the tutorial, but please turn the TV off next time. It makes for some very distracting background noise.

  • On the second note of the lead intro you're a semitone flat.. Instead of 12 to 10 on the high e string, it actually is 12 to 11

  • I enjoyed this tutorial :) it was definitely useful. You said that you play it differently now, do you use the tommy picking style that he uses in the song? If so, I would really like to see another video showing that :P just a small suggestion.

  • i'm not sure about this but, imo, the first chord from the verse sounds better as x20120..you should try it, great vid and taste for music man...see ya

  • The tuning is not as you say or are even playing. CGCEGC is what you're playing.

  • You've posted the wrong tuning in the description - it's CGCEGC, not CGCGCE

    good tutorial anyway

  • Please to send me tab.

  • Check my vid if you want the tab, gl.

  • turn off your TV buddy

  • i'll make sure to do that when i make this video again, which i won't.

  • Please do :( x

  • good lad, neither would i...cracking effort ;)

  • @NintenjoPower lol that's the attitude bro

  • @NintenjoPower Thanks for going out of your way to make this video, but you just seem like a really obnoxious person and I am glad I do not know you.

  • fuck yeahhh man!!!! thanks a lot!!!! that was great!

  • Nevermind..... gahh! My bad rockstar you already have a cover posted on youtube, sorry about that

  • Your a good singer . You should do a cover of this.... wonderful , amazing , beautiful , sexy , hot , crazy , mindblowing , song.

  • Thx a lot, that was helpful. Only one correction on the open C chord tuning. In the video you got it right, but in the text info where you describe how to tune it, you are wrong. Open C in the way you play it in the video is like this: C-G-C-E-G-C.

    4 stars.

  • ah shit, i think you're right. i remember looking up "open C" tuning in google and posting the first explanation. after further review, i think you're right...

  • Yea hes right and also this is a bit sloppy version in my opinion

  • yeah, i will agree that it's sloppy. i made this when i first learned it, and i play it a lot differently now. maybe i'll make a new video without singing the lyrics sometime soon...

  • It's cool. In retrospect my comment is a bit douche-ridden. Keep playin, lovin Elliott-- peace brother

  • thanks. i've been trying to figure this out for years.

  • I just stumbled upon this. Elliot Smith is barely known in Australia, which is a shame. Thank you for helping good music travel around the world.

By the way, I agree with the earlier poster that complimented you on both your playing and your voice. Post some of your original work. I'm sure you'll have fans.

  • f i give up I fckd up my guitar with the tuning now i tottaly lost it.. imma check this out when i'm sober.

    thank u btw

  • thanks so much for this its great your voice rocks and your guitar playhing is near perfect, did you ever get around to making the tab?

  • The Problem with some of his songs is that they have a strange tuning, just like this one. Great tutorial, though the end is not complelty like the recording on XO

  • turn the tv off! haha

  • it's funny because they play "ring of fire" by johnny cash in the background right when i play the first few notes...

  • p.s. your tutorial is awesome, and is helping me a ton.

  • hey man you were right the first time (i think). Your "comments" are wrong tho. check it out, the guitar is tuned CGCEGC. right? its gotta be. I did some utube research and a bunch of people were saying a bunch of different things. but the tuning you are in is definitely cgcegc

  • hey thanks for pointing this out. too bad it was about an hour before i took notice to it though, haha. i knew something wasn't right.

  • yeah, it's definately supposed to be CGCEGC in the description

  • Hey, whatever I can do to help you play Elliott Smith songs. I know how frustrating it is to figure out what the hell he's playing!

  • Hey, not to bother you anymore, but do you think you could possibly show how you play the second part of the intro? The strummed part.

I've figured out the first half and the verses from this video, it's been an excellent resource, now I just need that other part rounded out and I'm set!

Thanks for any help you can give. And for doing this video in the first place anyway.

  • You're right, this helped a lot more than just a tab. Thank you very much for going to the trouble to do that, now I must practice it!
