Machine Queen: You insidious fiend, you're not my royal consort.
Ratican: What a sense of humor.
Machine Queen: Not a cheap form, imposter.
Ratican: Flafashem!
Basil: A corrupt, demented, and lowlife scoundrel, there is no evil sceme you wouldn't concult. No depravity you wouldn't commit. You professor; are non other then a vile exstensive, rodentise, commonly known as a........
You mean Miss Kitty Mouse, the stripper. I had a crush on her when i was 5 seeing this movie 4 times in it's 86 release and blushed when i saw her. I thought she was cute, for a mouse.
Whenever I see a Top Villains countdown without Rattigan on it, I refer the maker of said countdown to this film.
Professor Rattigan is the epitome of over-the-top, theatrical villainy. Cunning, debonair, and possessing an ego without rival, he's easily Disney's most entertaining villain. I'd agree with Doug Walker's statement, "I know some people like Hades or Captain Hook, but this character is so egotistical and so diabolical that he takes the cheesecake."; Rattigan truly was a great baddie.
My friends have no ideo what this movie is. The first time I heard them say that, I was in astonishment. I thought it was impossible not to know what this movie was. The best, my favorite, next to a Bug's Life.
@TheMismess lol I totally agree with this, Loved this movie too. One of the Disney classics. i have to watch it again too now that I'm 19 and in college :P XD
@CirqueLaTerror werd it really does when u watch u remeber when u was little watchin it in ur room. n like to be honest it doesnt matta da age whether ur in ur teena or an adult one can still watch these type of movies im 18 n i love this movie i could watch it everyday if i wanted 2
Damn! Haven't seen this movie for over 10 years...maybe I should see it again XD Thank you for the trailer....brought up so many childhood memories <3
I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters back in 1986 3 times when i was 5 years old and loved it, i had a readalong book with cassette, soundtrack, coloring books and a stuffed Basil. I was sad it never came out on video the next year because i wanted it but it took a long ass time to get on video until i was 10 when i saw it again in theaters and finally got the video for christmas.
@CirqueLaTerror Yes, indeed it probably does to most. As for me, on the other hand, I only saw this movie for the first time about 4 years ago, and I'm nearly 19 years old.
OMG i saw this movie when i was 5 years old back in the summer of 86 about 2 times when i lived in St. Louis, had a great time and had some merchandise like Basil stuffed doll, a readalong book with cassette, storybook, pencil case and Coloring book with Cookie-Crisp GMD sticker. I even saw the re-issue when i was 10 years old.
@Johnlindsey289 Ha, I had some Cookie Crips GMD stickers too. I always could only ever get Fidget though. Never could find any other merchandise from this one, till I eventually found a picture book for sale at the local library's store. Later, I got beanies of Basil, Dawson, Olivia, Ratigan, and a plush of the dog. I will probably try to sell the whole set when I eventually get the WDCC statues of Basil and Dawson. But, yeah, great movie I saw in the theater as a kid too. Loved it!
I was also sad that this movie never came out on video the next year but i did like Oliver and Company had my merchandise for my memories but glad that it was re-issued in theaters when i was 11 years old. Did you had a thing for Miss Kitty Mouse the stripper too? or is Gadget cuter?
@Johnlindsey289 I gotta go with Gadget. Miss Kitty looks too much like a mouse for me. Gadget has a more human look, with the blonde hair and skin-tone fur, and she's super cute too.
Were you also upset as a kid this never came out on video? i did, i would ask but they never gotten it in, what took them so long to put this, Oliver and Fox and The Hound on video for so long? because i saw all them in theaters as a kid but for Fox it was 1988's re-issue that i saw 2 times as well like the other 2 movies, but i was happy at 11 when they re-released Great Mouse back in theaters and loved it.
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, I think I was annoyed by that. I don't know if they just wanted to rerelease it once first, or if they just didn't feel it was successful enough. But I remember seeing those films both the first and second times they were release.
@slave2moonlight lol! I got the WDCC Sculptures with my own money just shy of a year ago. I've also got the Basil beanie, a Toby Beanie, four picture books (two of which are the same, one of them is just absolutely worn out), The soundtrack (both on CD and cassette), a couple pins, the '99 lithograph, and the Basil of Baker Street book by Eve Titus.
Also, would you consider selling the Toby plush? Just curious.
@BasilSherlockson Ha, I have the soundtrack on cassette too. Badly need to upgrade it. Well, my intention is to sell Great Mouse Detective beanies (which includes the Toby plush/beanie) after I acquire the WDCC statues. Until then, I want to keep them for display. But hopefully it won't be long. However, I want to try selling it all as a set first.
@BasilSherlockson I'll keep it in mind. Just e-mail me at slave2moonlight@yahoo.com with a reminder of what you're interested in, and I'll save it for reference.
@BasilSherlockson Um. Just to let you know. This trailer that showed "The Great Mouse Detective" was taken from the beginning of "The Rescuers" and the end of "So Dear to my Heart". The different title of the same trailer that showed "The Adventures of the Great Mouse Detective" was especially taken from the end of 101 Dalmatians. Am I correct or what?
@BasilSherlockson Exactly! So this preview did come from the beginning of the rescuers, and the end of so dear to my heart. You see, I have the 1992 VHS of The Rescuers. Every time you see the preview of the great mouse detective(found in The Rescuers previews(1992 Version), you can see the giant gears close on each other after basil swipes olivia from danger, with the title saying "The Great Mouse Detective".
let me guess. this is the great mouse detective trailer #1, the trailer before the beginning of the rescuers. the alternate trailer of great mouse detective was at the end of 101 dalmatians, the great mouse detective is also known as "the adventures of the great mouse detective".
This was my favorite movie when I was a little girl. <33

It's funny how much stuff they had back then that wasn't considered inappropriate for kids. Basil smoking, Olivia's panty shots, that stripper tease.
