Good work, RonB. The music is meditation, and cannot be played too slow, only too fast. Are you working on organ as well? I taught myself to play the pedals using a Bach piece called the Pedal Exercitium BWV 598.
@Pianoplayer002 But it would just kill all the fun to play an existing transcription instead of using the original 3-bar notes for the organ, wouldn't it? :)
@ronb127 True :P But it leaves more windows open for advancing and interpreting the piece :P Liszts transcription is very straightforward and mostly creates solutions for how to move the foot-pedal part into the left hand
@Pianoplayer002 I think that part of the fun was trying to find a solution myself. I think that in almost 100% of the cases I just play the notes as-is. Magically I had enough fingers to hold all of them together!
@ronb127 I can imagine! :D I love this entire cycle of preludes and fugues. Maybe try your hand at some of the others? The a minor BWV 543 is amazing and in case you find you are in a shortage of extra hands you can always check out Liszt's version. He even manages to squeeze in octaves in many of the places where the foot pedals are used!
Bach's use of expression and overall mood of this fugue is vastly different from the prelude. It's alot more "direct." However, the BWV 548 and the BWV 543 are amongst Bach's greatest. The prelude in A minor BWV 543 would be relatively easy to play on the piano considering the pedal and manual parts don't go on simultaneously often. However, the BWV 543 borders on Bach's early use of virtuosity. Just some thoughts :)
Hey, this fugue is truely amazing! Bach is awesome. The reason I cut it at the end is because I lost tempo and it sounded funny. The fugue ends exactly as it starts so after it stops you can seek back to 0:00 and play until 2:50. This is how it ends. :)
you have inspired me to try this! unfortunately, I do not have the money to pay for organ lessons, and can only learn this by ear, as learning the organ music would be to complicated... i should have the video of my take, in about a week or two.... I warn you and robertgift however, almost 98% of the song shall be incorrect and in the wrong key..... I did manage, however to learn a lot of the gigue fugue, Robert, and shall play that on piano... as best as I can.
Try to do the third whole-note trill at :49. Wrong notes at 5:08 Love your ornament at 5:19! Never thought of that myself. Must try it. As an organist I play the pedal notes on the pedals. Don't know how you accomplish them on the piano. Later you will increase your tempo - but never be too fast. What do you think of detaching the wedge notes? I do not like them slurred at all. Sounds much better slightly detached. Listen to Helmut Walcha play it. Best I have ever heard.

This is a disaster! Bach would strongly disapprove.

sounds good, but id play it a bit faster, it is meant to be a quite lazy sounding fugue though, sounds good!

Have you written a transcription?
vanya2309 2 years ago
Unfortunately no, I just use the original notes for the organ (3 bars), trying to play as many notes as possible.

Where can i find original ? i want to play it on my harmonium

I use "Complete Preludes and Fugues for Organ" / Dover. You can also use any other release of Bach - Organ Works for the organ. Good luck!

thank you, i will look into it!

this fugue is written for organ not for piano!

Excellent, I like the slow tempo. This fugue is amazing! However, can you please post a video not cut off at the end?
