A little research reveals that James Gordon Williams serverd in the 7th battalion of the Commonwealth horse(battalion because it was a mounted infantry element not cavalry) a unit raised in Queensland and commanded by a giant in Australian military history General Sir Harry Chauvel GCMG, KCB the commander of the desert columns(Desert mounted corps) that captured Jerusalem and Damascuss and commanded the light horse brigades(in particular the 4th Light horse brigade) at the battle of Bersheeba.
