  • u killed such a beautiful fish these musselcracker are rarely caught by rock and shore anglers. even if i catch one i will release it. its sad such a great fighter from the rod and reel gets killed so easily.

  • Anybody who thinks musselcracker is not endangered is either stupid or naive. These fish take 8 years to reach maturity. Big fish are 45 years old. If you want to see how common they used to be, go look at the old photos at Durban Ski Club. In the early days boats would bring in 20 BIG fish. If 10 big cracker (40kg) are caught a year in SA now i would be very surprised.

  • nice hunt

  • nice fish

  • nice shot!

  • few left??? must hurry getting me one !!!!

  • According to the SASSI website( Southern African sustainable seafood initiative), both the black and white musselcracker are NO SALE SPECIES.It may not be sold or bought anywhere in SA.It may only be caught with a valid permit.Their stocks are severly overexploited and the fish is likely to be placed on the IUCN's(international Union for Conservation of nature) red list soon.I am with @MrAdventeroux on this one, leave the species alone.

  • awesome shot

  • poor fishy :D

  • nice shot

  • what the hells a musselcracker

  • Awesome!

  • Pff... tu aimes faire souffrir petit con.

Je souhaite qu'il t'arrive la même chose.

  • You bled it did you see sharks later?

  • Beautifully opening sequence photography. However please stop killing endangered fish like the silver steenbras/musselcracker. If you dont believe its endanged then spend a hour researching it.

  • @MrAdventeroux tautog, steenbras, musselcracker what ever u want to call it isnt endangered....im a marine biologist and love fishing for these things...u must have seen the wrong fish or the site was misinformed

  • @caponesniper I dont believe you are a marine biologist. If you are you are worryingly misinformed. The stock is below 10% of what it should be. If you think its a good idea to kill a fish thats stock is below 10% of prime biomass well .... happy hunting and take a pic to show your kids what they looked like. Stocks below 10% are seen as critically endangered. It is a on the SASSI red list. A big steenbras may be older than yourself. How is that sustainable?

  • @MrAdventeroux i've seen nothing about musselcracker being endangered....i could be wrong about the species but if this is the species i think it is its not endangered.ill check my files.

  • @MrAdventeroux your right i thought the fish speared was a fish was a tautog...many people in my area call them musselcrackers. i apologize.

  • @MrAdventeroux dude come on a dive with us on the eastern and western cape and come see for yourself if they are overexploited. yes their are less but no they are not close to being endangered. stick to bag limits and sizes and hunt selectively and there will be plenty for the Laaities to enjoy as well

  • STOP THAT CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice shot dude.....
