@MrVincent537, you are 100% entitled to your opinions, but ethically, his musical interpretation is not only musically justified, but fits the piece wholesale.
By the way, his interpretation DOES fit the czech style to a degree. If you'd listen, you'd hear it. I'll give you an example that I heard while writing this: 6:36, there's one, I'm sure there's plenty others.
the conducter is conducting as Dvorak would have liked to hear his music, but the cellist is completelly not in the music. He uses it for his own show.
@Ashreeful He was into the music in his way, a way which doesn't suit the way I hear it in my head and also by cellists like Fournier or Tortelier whose versions suit for me more to this musik. It disturbs me the overloaded theatral affectivity in the lubricated exgerated phrasing with sudden descrescendi or pianissimi "à la parusky", which have nothing to do with the poetry of Dvorak's music, but with some kind of external phisical excitation someone intends to induce in another person. . .
@taizecellist i didn't say it was better, i said i like isserlis' version better... this has nothing to to with who did a better job, just with my personal opinion!
I seem to recall that Liszt took some insults for including a triangle in one of his concertos. They knew they couldn't even try to say anything bad about this concerto.
a real nice finding on youtube, Dvorak celoo concerto performed by the extraordinary Rostropovich and conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini, premiered on march 19, 1896 by cellist Leo Stren and under the direction of the compositor himself
im more prone to movement #2 i think its prettier and yes Antonin Dvorak was a genius and Rostropovich is an even better! WE LOVE BOTH OF THE MAESTROS!

There are tonnes of unconventional rubatos, but, as usual, this is really amazing and wonderful -- common for Maestro Rostropovich!!!!

Este movimiento es uno de los mas bellos, sino el mas, compuesto jamás para un concierto de cello.
La parte final del concierto me emociona siempre que la escucho. Grande Dvorak!

The sound is wonderful, but the picture of this part has a lot of artifacts. It may be better in high definition.
