I never understood the arguments against Harry Potter from people who tout CS Lewis as a perfect example for their beliefs. Devout Christian or not, people have to understand not only that this is a work of fiction, but that "witches" are analogues for conveying the author's ideas - in this case about social justice imo.
And since we have to look at THAT instead of the surface - you'll realize there is one theme through the series:

When I was 15 I told my parents I hoped to go to college someday. My father told the church leaders.
The following Sunday the pastor called me up in front of the congregation, asked everyone to come forward, and they laid hands on me to rebuke and cast out this desire for college that Satan had put in my thoughts.

I think too many Christians took the book out of context. Another example of something like this was the Golden Compass, supposedly it was telling people to step away from the catholic church, it was met with as much retaliation as the harry potter series

Well, my point is Harry Potter is pure fiction. But that doesn't stop Christian fundamentalists from saying it promotes the practice of witchcraft. This might seem to suggest that they believe Harry Potter readers will be unable to realize that the world of Harry Potter ins real.
But that was half meant as a joke though.

The question Christians should be asking is... Does God want His children being entertained with any thing that has to do with witch craft, Satanism, or anything else that is not of God. Even when watching something that we view as harmless, can begin to desensitize us. Christians on television are viewed as weak imbeciles, while the real power and strength displayed, is always from something that God condemns. Which do you think our kids will choose?

I am a Christian and I happen to enjoy the Harry Potter series as I enjoy ALL forms of Science Fiction and Fantasy; as SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY. The Bible tells me to "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every person." It does NOT tell Christians to go into all the world and agitate the crap out of people. Sorry to be so blunt, but truth is truth. There IS a war going on for the souls of people. Christians need to stop focusing on things and start showing God's love to people.

I think a lot of this "Harry Potter is Satanism" crap is all a VERY big misunderstanding. To read the big article that started it all, google this exact phrase (with quotations included): "Harry Potter books cause rise in satanism among children" It was written by The Onion, which deals in fake news. A simple guide:
- Christianity: 2000 years old (pretty young for a religion)
- The Bible: Written by humans, revised by humans, re-revised by humans (etc. etc.)
- Witch: A quick and handy term to keep an unruly community in line. Obey my beliefs or die at the stake. Also, a good scapegoat for circumventing Judicial Law.
- Magic: Does not exist. No matter how much you want it to. (More "magic" in the bible than in Harry potter.)
- Harry Potter: Fiction. Fiction. Fiction.
