people didn't hit the (then) level cap for years after the game first came out. It took a week just to get 1 level. Now you can get past the original level cap in a week. All the old hunting grounds are devoid of life, blame it either on low number of players, but I think they just added newer dungeons to power level faster.
@YouTrolol I think the problem is that Turbine wanted to reduce the leveling curve for new players as the game progressed. They wanted new players to be able to easily catch up, but it has taken a toll on the game. Where as you once held onto that low level quest item for weeks, and used it regularly, now they're considered junk.
When his game first came out, it was amazing. I seriously compare every MMO to it, and this always takes the cake. I assume this leveling system is why I'm a fan of TES games. About a year or two ago, I tried the 10 day trial or however long it was. I was shocked to find out that I could power level from 1-126 within that time. This game places so much emphasis on end game content now, that most of the quests leading up to are useless.
As an old AC player this is just plain weird to me. I don't think I like it. One thing I liked about AC is that everyone was human (it made it different from most fantasy games at the time).
I wish I could go back in time and play Asheron's Call from beta again - it spoiled me to the point where I don't even enjoy modern MMOs because they aren't nearly as good.
@RichGilly I'm on the other side of the fence. I played Asheron's Call during beta, and went on to play Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings during beta. I thought it added to AC2 to be to play as Lugian and Tumerok characters. Then, eventually being able to play as Drudge and Empyrean characters, as well. I think they might have over shot and introduced too large an assortment to AC1, but I'm glad to see Shadow and Tumerok characters in-game, albeit with a weird, updated model.
@ACGuy31 So if AC1 is evolving into AC2.. Doesn't this make sense just to relaunch a F2P model of AC2? ..erm AC3 and just call Fallen Kings a beta test.
@aeasus As far as gameplay, Asheron's Call is always going to be a very different game than Asheron's Call 2. I think they're looking to tie the lore together more, but that is normal storyline progression. I'd love to think we'll see Asheron's Call 3, though. You never know!
@RichGilly I'm with you on this one. I liked that it was only humans. It made it feel more real. I also don't like these new races because they cut corners when making them. Like shadows have no legs, but they wear leg armor. Gear Knights wear armor, but you don't see it. Gear Knights should probably have their own armor system, but they don't because it would have taken too much time.
Love the music! also best game I ever played.

Wow this is weird... I played at launch for a few years. I would play again if I didn't have to setup port forwarding just to log in.
