Those are some impressive numbers. I did the supermileage competition and we hit 777 mpg and are shooting for 1500+ mpg next year. Someone should make an all carbon frame and use 4 electric motors for the drive. That way you can eliminate the brakes and have better acceleration.
You need a larger diameter tire to get a better contact patch. I like how all of the takes are spinouts. Also, the load paths on the suspension are way wrong. There is also no point of a rear dog leg suspension.
@gineface Actually, a lot of the teams turbocharge, specifically BECAUSE of the air restriction. A naturally aspirated engine just can't burn enough fuel to get that much power. The restrictor is 20mm in diameter, and turbocharging it just crams more air through the restrictor into the cylinder before the valves close.
yeah , but the turbocharger must be placed after the restrictor so it's extremely inefficient ,although you do get a gain. in the end it all depends on the budget , i haven't seen low-medium budget teams using forced induction.
Sorry digitalpho3nix. I was referring to "vwwv1978" comments about how SAE cars just spin out at SCCA events and are no match for a Formula Vee's. I applaud those fsae teams who actually use their cars for their intended purpose.
the engine and transmission too? i think the sae program is waaay blown out or proportion... one of my cousins is in it and despite the fact that hes never touched the car... they think hes going to be in nascar...
The engine is not built by the students, however it is VERY heavily modified. The intake is custom, exhaust is custom, one year i think they even took a 6 cyl and cut it down into 4 cyl. The engine is picked by the students, then modified to meet our needs.
nice car men! it's really amazing!

turbocharged???? not too many fsae teams do that. How'd that work with the restricted intake...
I thought the turbos just caused restriced exhaust flow cause of the small intake, making them pretty useless.

it will have about 15hp gain
and more torque

I didn't think you could have a muffler sticking out from your frame that far???...and why did yall build it like that anyway?
TriGurHaPpY 3 years ago
@TriGurHaPpY At least on my team, we had to run a larger muffler while on campus just for noise control.

whats even better is when a SAE car gets spanked by vintage formula Vees at a local autocross....94 hp doesnt help when all they do is spin-out.
vwwv1978 4 years ago
Over here is Aus we have hillclimbs and with our 80 hp we spank them by 7 seconds on a 53 second course.
taatk1 3 years ago
Somehow I refuse to believe that you'd beat a top-rank car like that by a margin that big on a course that small.
Post a link to some timesheets and then I'll believe you

1.24 Lateral G's?
Shouldn't you guys be designing for more like 1.6?
Impressive engine output however.
digitalpho3nix 4 years ago
Good luck getting 1.6 w/o aero.
rjetta8v 3 years ago
I am 100% certain the UWA guys are getting 1.8 SUSTAINED these days and they run no wings!
digitalpho3nix 3 years ago
UWA is fast.
But First place in AutoX in Detroit 2007 was UTA. Second place was OU.
Both cars were winged.
rjetta8v 3 years ago
We were going to do aero on our car this year, but decided we didn't have the time to make the package work properly. Shame really...
Sorry, not too familiar with the US competition. If we do well this year, then we will probably come out to the Detroit Comp in 2009!
UWA is going to a SAE comp in the USA soon too, so you'll see first hand how ridiculously fast that yellow rocket is. Good bunch of guys too!
digitalpho3nix 3 years ago
We have seen UWA perform first hand. They are incredible. Especially in the small tight courses. I wouldn't bet against them.
But in 2007 Detroit, UTA and OU beat them in AutoX.
