Before I had been introduced to Gong, I once took what you would describe as Terrence McKenna's infamous 'heroic dose' of psilocybin. I had one rather distinct closed eye hallucination of pixie/elven-like beings with pointy hats and the full works. They were so detailed, and were filling my head with wisdom and revelation. One day, years later, I saw a Gong album cover... and the penny dropped. These were the same guys. I don't know where they are, but on some level I believe they're real.
I am finally going to see them in Brighton on Nov 29th and I really can't wait!!!!!!!! All this time I never managed to go see them and now I'm 36 and they are *old* hehe it's about time! Hillage too...what a treat!
It was absolutely amazing, bad journey getting there but so worth it.Daevid Allen had at one point an amazing white pixie suit on,a cape, wicked curled pixie hat+totally massive white sunglasses on.......he dances like he's a young'en!! Steve Hillage was incredible+Mike Howlet.Shakti Yoni herself looks ancient but is still the only space whisperer on the planet+beyond.Oily Way+Inner Temple was bliss.Loved it ......off for tea now, have another one, have a cup of tea.....love to all PHP's out there
Great video, it goes with the song so good, loved gong in the early days ,looks like the thing they used to do on "OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST "PLAYING THE SONG TO AN OLD FILM OR CARTOON ....!!
steve hillages fish rising is better than gong, and definately the ozrics were influenced by gona but there definately not a tribute band! And hawkwind wernt poncy enough musicians to be classed as progrock! they termed themselves space rock and i think that title suits them better than any other. Maybe im wrong about steve hillage, ive changed my mind to pink floyds medal lol
over the moon to find all this amazing music from avery long time ago, started to listen to gong in the late 70s it is still fantastic to this day well done for posting such brilliance on u tube
Unfortunately my daddy was really into new wave(if I listen to more Talking Heads I'll go crazy!)when I was little,so I just had to discover this awesome band by myself, being a prog rock fan.
Hawkwind is great, too, more on the epic side and a great influence on metal, and also Ozric Tentacles is very good, more on the jam and experimental side;Gong, instead is more on the acid side,I think. As much as I love Pink Floyd, I consider Gong, Hawkwind and Ozric Tentacles the Trinity of psychedelic rock!
You've got a dodgy leg on your psychedelic milking stool my friend!! The Ozrics are a Gong tribute band, as fun as they are.
Stick with Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd in your trinity as once Syd left Pink Floyd became its very own limp wristed PF tribute band!
Just remember the ORIGINAL psychelia is not prog rock at all but jazz via SUN RA and the ARKESTRA. It took rock over a decade to catch on to - but never catch up with - RA.
I know Sun Ra and I like his music, but I don't care which is the original psychedelia, I find the psychedelia via prog rock more entertaining. I like very much Pink Floyd, maybe I'll replace Hawkwind with them, but I still prefer Gong and the Ozrics. As for the Ozrics, I don't care if it's some sort of Gong tribute band, I find their music original, fun and beautiful. That's all.
Dude, I can say that I'm 17, I'm a metalhead, but I fucking love Gong and the early progressive rock stuff and this song is one of my favorite tunes ever! It cheers me up every time I listen to it! As you can see, even young people like the older music!
P.S.: Gong + Betty Boop = Pure Psychedelia! Awesome video! In one word: crazy!
When you put this cartoon to the Gong song did you think it would work beforehand or is it just fate that they go together so well.Sold to the highest Buddha.
God bless Daevid Allen, the man's a genius. I've met him a couple of times along with a few others from the original line-up. A nice bunch of people. I bet it was a wild time in France in the early days in their House of Gong ('Gong Maison')
This visual worked pretty well....good job and nice find! I enjoyed it..
