It actually took me a bit to figure out to use the psycho wand to neutralize night mare, cuz I remember seeing the description that it neutralizes barrier, so I figured I'd try it

this magic is actually a tribute to the past, its only played when you face boss's from the old versions. both Zio (or Generation of dooms Darkforce) or Lasute

wren in this game is the same wren from ps3 because at the end of ps3 they landed on a planet in algo and his age is at 998 which dark force is suppose to come every 1,000 years but because of parma missing as part of the key keeping PD away it let dark force come in early and more often

@petermca its 2 different wrens. in ps3 "true" ending when u beat da game with aron, alisa 3 goes thru a blackhole back in time then crashes on Earth's moon. every1 on the spaceship dies. aron ending is da only ending that makes any kind of sense when putting all the phantasy stars together

when i first fought Zio , iwas like omg the game will end now :( this game is so cool that i was afraid that it will end to fast ) XD ....this game is like 20/5 in my opinion

it was hard to beat him, after 2 day...i did found how to remove his magic barrier, i just must use the psycho wand to zio, and his barrier was neutralized and i attack him any powerful attack, double slash/claw, crosscut and other attack, and i did beat it ^_^

Yeah, DF/PDF is so cool that they found the only human capable of that much hate and res'd him ^_^

I wish they could make a sequel, still... if they can bring back Lassic/Lashiec, they could CERTAINLY bring back Zio!

Rika isn't in Phantasy Star 3, you must be thinking of Mieu. And the Wren in Phantasy Star 3 is not the same one from this game.

I used to own the strategy guide, and it had a footnote about it.

They were both made at the same time, since PS3 and PS4 take place at the same time and they're both from the last cycle. But since one is on a Parma/Palm/Palma colony headed who-knows-where and the other is still in Algo, they're obviously not the same bot.

Zio was the first bad ass dark magic boss before Magus on Chrono Trigger. When facing Zio, is that the only time this boss music is played in the game?

Yes I remember that very well, where Dark Force, AKA Falz, says that, it was evil, infact he/it was another of my fav villians because of his evil nature, plus the design on him was brilliant, it was like if it was a nightmare that came to life.

You know when a game is great - when a super vilan is remembered - like ZIO!! he is awesome! The only villans that i remember are Zio, Shiva ( from streets of rage ) , and Sephiroth ( from final fantasy ) . Zio rules, and so does his evil music :)

I know what your saying, Zio is far one of the best villans in the game, although I did like Lassric aswell, I think I spelt his name right, but Zio will always be my fav villan.

Nightmare is not useless, it increases the attack power.

You should try to defeat Zio with your party at leve 15-17, it gets really exciting xD

I defeated him with the party at 13-15 yesterday. Rune is invincible against that fool, especially when he has two shields. Man, I feel stupid after all these years of leveling up in a desperate attempt to get Sar. Don't even need that for a while.

That's something I try not to do too often, give two shields to spellcasters, the game get's pretty easy.

yeah, but they end up really vulnerable to any kind of attack. What I did one time was give Rune two shields and train him alone (with Chaz and Rika dead) after this battle but before meeting Wren... In this same installation are all the experience points you can ask for and death attacks are so rare that is worth to take the risk. Doing that transforms Rune in to the Ultimate Badass.

Black Wave just does a ton of damage (about 100, I think). I heard somewhere that it will be a one-hit kill if you don't use the psycho-wand, but there's no reason not to use it anyway so I'm not sure if that's true or not.

i managed to beat zio tonight, i went into battle realizing that rika didnt have sar yet my first thought was oh sh*t, but i managed to win with everyone alive was an interesting fight tho lol

@FFL2and3rocks It's true. The first time I battled Zio I didn't know I had to use the Psycho-Wand as an item and got killed by him in a few turns, due to him firing many Black Waves at me, each being a one-hit-kill.

@FFL2and3rocks It is a one hit killing spell without using the Psycho Wand. But yes, since you can't even hurt Zio without using the Psycho Wand, it's really useless to find that out - except to note that it was a pretty cool way of showing that if you didn't use the wand he would own your party, no questions asked.
