@louieburns66 Thanks much- you sort of have to compromise a little on these because the good vocal take always ends up being the one where you hit a bum keyboard note or vice versa. I went with the better synth performance :)
This is really helpful. I've got to try and learn this for a Yorkshire Romeo and Juliet story we're doing in Sheffield! There are no midi files anywhere on the net of this, so this is very helpful - many thanks - effective version
They didn't use a Prophet for the bass- I suspect that's Roland System 700 modular, but yes, they did use a Korg Delta string synth. All you do is switch it into "strings" mode, add a little delay and it's instant Human League :>)
i am wanting to get a string synth. I was look at the Delta because i really like its sound and its a little more flexible than a Roland RS or something in its same price range. Any thought?
Not sure I'm the right person for advice as I haven't played tons of string synths. The Korg doesn't sound much like "real" strings, but it has a neat synth section with a really unique sounding filter. I'm actually selling the one I used in this video (I located a really mint Delta and bought it), so mail me if you're interested- I'm selling it cheap! :>)
Well, congratulations on totally missing the point. I'm well aware that I'm not Phil. I did it because I love the song and had the sounds. And unlike any singer on a "real" CD, I didn't have the benefit of flattering mic/pre/compressor and 37 takes, I just let it rip. BTW, I love Phil's voice, but he's pretty off when you see him live!
Love the original and love this version, it is brave to do it live, no effects superb, well done

omg - those patches you've used sound so much like the original. Did they use these synths on the original recording?

this is a decent cover, but it lacks what makes the original really work: Phil Oakey's voice

Oh, there was a point was there, and I missed it!!!
Actually, I seen the Human League perform twice, and Phil sounded great.

See the flashing lights in the corner? Electro-Harmonix Memory Man w/Hazarai... mod/delay. 'Tis the secret.

You make a Delta not sound like a Delta. : )
